Am I missing something? : Jammed ignition
Hi all
This afternoon, I managed to set off my ('12) defender alarm. After about an eternity (15 seconds), I got the thing switched off. During that time I put the key in the slot turned the ignition on and pressed the fob button, switched it off removed the key, pressed the fob button again. When the alarm eventually stopped, I tried to start the car normally and the ignition was jammed. The key would turn just enough to release the steering lock, but no further. It took about 15 minutes, maybe more, of jiggling, rocking of the key, with a whole lot of of WD40 to get it free. After that it seemed to work alright.......

Is there some funny security ignition lock procedure that is automatically activated with the alarm, or am I looking at a simple mechanical fault in the key barrel?

Thanks

If you had been lucky enough to mention this to your dealer while under warranty they would have replaced the barrel. It's a recognised fault. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Did you replace the whole steering lock only and end up with an extra key on your keyring? Dave's not here man...
