You should be able to get them in UK, the Provent200 is made by Mann+Hummel

https://www.mann-hummel.com/company/index....rec_no=192

if all else fails Western Filters http://www.westernfilters.com.au at least you wont have to pay VAT

c'mon fellas , I have to get almost all my Defender bits shipped from UK to Australia, just need to know what you want a few weeks prior & its a not issue,

Is this a worthwhile mod on the 2.2 engine or does the different design of the PCV make it redundant?

Ordered my Provent yesterday from RepublicSales US via Ebay.....Now i have to get into the hoses issue

Therefore i should be looking at the following from all what i read:

1- 1/2" (13mm) x 40 cm - (this is for the oil drain)

2- 3/4" (19mm) x 1 meter - this from the crankcase to the filter inlet & from the filter oulet to DCV)

WHAT ARE THE MINIMUM SPECS OF THE HOSES TO BE USED

3- 1/2" Brass drain tap ( for oil purge)

4- Provent 200 inlet and outlet are 1" (25mm) therefore you will need a straight hose reducer on both inlet and oulet

5- clamps

6- Heat protection foil

I will try to use the existing hose that is connecting currently the crankcase to the DCV ( it is quite new and looks fine, in this case i will need one silicone to connect to the DCV)

Quentin i think i will go for your Filter location, just one question! are you confortable with the heat projected by the engine on the filter or you feel it is not really a problem?

What are your thoughts on this ? because steve keep it far from the engine!

thanx Happy Travel

One more curiosity i have Quentin, i did take out my TD5 engine cover as well but why is it that you took out the turbo and exhaust protection ?

Any benefits coming from there?

Looked in the engine bay yesterday and saw it was a pretty solid well fitted protection plate with many screws around Smile Happy Travel

No issues at all with heat,
the Provent appears to be made from Polycarbonate, plus its on the cold side of the engine.

Had no issues with my insulated hose over the exhaust manifold melting either, drove Sydney to melb 850klm on a 40+ c day last week & worked a treat.

I took the Engine Acoustic cover off because it really does not quieten the engine anyway. The Turbo cover went in the rubbish bin at the same time, The turbo heat shield has no thermal efficiency at all, The bottom edge of mine was rubbing into & cutting the oil cooler to EGR cooler water return pipe on the back of the engine (Which I have now sealed off after EGR removal) With the engine cover & turbo sheild off you can easily see any problems before they become major - like leaking manifold, broken studs, bulging oil cooler pipe & its oh so much easier to get at the oil filter.

Also in this hot country the hot air can escape from around the engine faster - probably not so important in UK

pic below of the part of the turbo cover that was rubbing thru the water pipe on the back of engine. my advice - throw that cover as far as your able

Crystal clear....

And the hoses Quentin any specs? what type of hose you used? does it have to be resistant to oil or it is enough to be resistant to heat and pressure?

firstly must be resistant to oil, secondly heat, thirdly pressure.

I used 7/8 oil transfer hose , and wrapped in heat insulation shield

this type of stuff would do - (not sure about the diam tho , would pay to ask them)

good luck with the project.

Agree with Quentin, get rid of the cover and shields. They do very little, I have lots of reflective tape but I only have it on because I had some.

The only area I would protect is the water hose at the front of the head, this went very crusty on mine as there is no protection as standard but needs some.

Look quite similair dont they Quentin?

Steve your engine bay is superbly clean....what is your secret!!!! lol

I think this is becoming the ultimate Crankcase Breather one stop forum.....

Steve i yet again noticed that you have defenitely capped off the end of the hose running from the filter outlet to the DCV ( actually you said it before) and i can see that you blocked the DCV (valve) with something shiny.

Cant really tell what it is!!! can you enlight us with your solution. Happy Travel

Hi,

It is just a piece of aluminium turned down with a top hat and a little swage to help retain it once the clip is tightened.

Got that for you:

the conversion sizes for the hose Internal Diameter is as follows :

-04 AN 536 = 6.35mm
-06 AN 536 = 9.52mm
-08 AN 536 = 12,7mm..................(1/2")
-10 AN 536 = 15.87mm
-12 AN 536 = 19,05 mm................(3/4")

Ebay.co.uk list a similar hose by Aeroquip which is called AQP Socketless Hose, they list both the 1/2" and 3/4" sizes.

The max pressure is 250psi (17bar) and the temperature range for oil is -49oC to +150oC. The hose uses push fittings just like the Goodridge.

The prices are as follows -

1/2" I/d £12.56
3/4" I/d £14.76 Happy Travel

ok.. seems like i am about to revive an old topic. ..

would a 2ootdi breather/separater do the trick? The Pro 200 seems like a great thing but a bit expensive for me right now.

should i give the land rover item a try? not much oil passing through right now in my TD5 but wish to minimise it.

regards
joseph
