2013 Defender 110 Puma 2.2 SW Fuji White

12V feed for 85W fridge

What is the best way to feed a 85W fridge in the back of my 2013 110? I did connect it with the sigaret lighter but together with my iPad and iPhone charging, all got too hot and resulted in several melted plugs. The iPad needs continue charging as it is used for navigation. Off course the fridge also is connected continue and for many hours. Is there a 12v feed in the back that can hold 85W for long periods? Thanks!

I'm afraid a dedicated and fuse protected supply is your best bet.

It's an opportunity to put in battery protection too.

My only other input is to ensure you put a decent gland on the battery box when feeding the conduit. I recently saw a wire cut through and welded to the metal when vibration had cut through the rubber grommet.

A direct feed from the battery has become my choice. Got some 2.5Qmm wire and a Kemo M148A Battery Guard. The only thing I have to attack now is the connection with the fridge as I take it out and put it back in every day on the trips we do. Avoiding sigaret lighter plugs there seem to be not so many options. Any advice on good quality 12V plugs? TIA

I've never seen a good quality cigarette lighter plug - horrible things. For that current I would probably use Neutrik Powercon or Speakon. These are highly reliable professional audio connectors with excellent strain relief.

Both are available from CPC

For my fridge, I use the Hella plug setup.
Does not work loose, avoiding a short curcuit in the plug and potentially frying the fridge.
Can also be made 'water resistant'...

Anderson powerpole are pretty standard for 12V at a reasonable current.

Speakon are great, and I plan to use a couple for a similar purpose. They're not "rated" for DC though, and it is a non standard use of the outlet.
