Agree with Slideywindows, I would looks or something as original as possible and if it needs some work, not over restore it.

A Series 3 may offer cheaper fun.

I personally am on the lookout for an early ish 90 in good original condition, preferably petrol and much preferably a factory V8. It may be a long search Rolling Eyes

I did 50mph once. Never again! Shocked

It is a shame that these vehicles have become so desirable - what is wrong with people?!? Otherwise we'd all have an 80" Series 1, II, early Ninety, Stage 1 and 2-door RR tucked away.

Hi guys,

A lot of good feedback and advice here, appreciated and apologies for the delay in posting.

Just to clarify, not looking for a restoration project, or a pile of bits. Want a complete Series that is derivable.

Not into a fully restored car, prefer something more original.

Has to be a Series 1, 80" as early as possible.

No budget as such.

Where do I start the search?

James, thanks. Yes have come across that site, very nice, the 48 and 49 are what I want, however I'm not looking for a pristine, fully restored ornament.

Would like something I can drive every now and then, paintwork doesn't have to be great.

A very interesting thread. I always kind of fancied a series 1, but prices are just beyond my reach now. I do wonder just how the next generation of series enthusiasts is going to come about, youngsters simply cannot afford them. Perhaps some will inherit?

In general prices have gone crazy over the last few years. My truck cost me £2000 in 2005, it is now worth...well, I dread to think. All academic anyway as I have no plans to sell. Thankfully I invested in undesirable vehicles (anyone who has ever driven a 1-Ton 109" will know why) however the rims alone are now worth enough to buy a half decent series IIA swb if you sold a set. My problem is lack of parts, six cylinder stuff is just gone now. What is left is on sale at vastly inflated prices. I am not old, but even I remember parts costing a fraction of what they are now.

Having three series trucks plus the 110 I have to be careful. I had planned on doing up the series trucks a) as a hobby and b) as an inheritance for my kids. Since the other half walked out and robbed me of £10K I don't that will be happening now...but the hobby aspect does help focus the mind. I have said to myself there will be no more Land-Rovers, except a genuine ex-SEB Stage 1 V8, or, an ex SEB UAZ 452...neither of which are likely to turn up, especially not a UAZ. I have had some pressure/suggestion to sell the 110 to cover the debts. I have a solicitor investigating alternatives now. I don't think I could part with my 110 and I 100% could not sell either of my 1-Tons. I have not yet developed a link with my 88" though, it was supposed to be "her" car, thankfully I got it off her when she left. We shall see what happens with that one.

If anyone does buy an early 80", pretty please could I have a drive, I have never driven one and almost certainly will never own one... 2011 110 USW

Oh why did I have to click on the link? I love the look of the Brown and cream County, It is a good job it to far away for me to go and sneak a look. Don't make old people mad.
We don't like being old in the first place,

I first bought this 1952 80 inch as a poor student, it was cheaper than a third hand mini metro I was looking at. Kept her for a few years but sold her when I bought my first house. Always regretted it. Many years later my wife tracked it down and bought it for me as a surprise. Yes, I cried like a baby!. She needed a new chassis and a respray and a new wiring loom but apart from that but was sympathetically restored as you can tell from the cappings. The problem is she's so good I don't even let her get muddy, there is something amazing for me, being a bit OCD, to have a shiny landy that's pretty much perfect so I try to keep her like this as I can't afford to restore her twice. I don't care about modern cars and I've had countless defenders but this one has history with me anD I hope to be able to pass it on to my children if they want the responsibility. If they don't we will sell her and get a series 3 which is arguably more usable. I wish I had room/ finances for both. And I wish the lanes never got muddy, or rain, or flies....

Great story! what a beauty, though even though I am a perfectionist and OCD, I don't want a perfect Series I!

Look after it!
