Help needed - reversing camera
After being quoted £250 supply and fit a new reversing camera to my 90 I took the decision to buy one for a few coppers and fit myself, saving over £230 ! But it's not been plain sailing (although I've quite enjoyed doing it so far!)

The camera in question is the one below

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/231558568622?_tr...EBIDX%3AIT

The wiring instructions are at best unhelpful.... Rolling Eyes That is once you've got a microscope out to see them.... Confused

I'm not great at wiring hopefully somebody has already fitted one of these or knows how to wire them...

Below is a picture of the wires

Wire C is the Pos & Neg wires they go to reversing light Pos & Neg?
Wire A & B These are a short red wire's one both ends - any idea where these go?
The yellow plug obviously plugs in to the reverse plug in the rear of the head unit

So the two red wires in question:

I've connected one to the 'reverse Gear Signal Input' I'm guessing this will turn automatically switch the the head unit on so I can see when I select reverse?

But where dose the other end go? Would this also go the the reverse light?

Hi,

I have fitted a similar system to mine, and basically the system works by splicing in one end of the red wire to the reverse light at the camera end at the rear of the car, and the other end goes into to the head unit. so basically as you select reverse, the reverse light goes on, which puts the red wire to the head unit live, which prompts the head unit to switch the video feed to the camera input, and voila, you can see where you are going backwards.

I am sure yours will be along the same lines, so just work along those principles. Hope this helps.

Thank you Alastair Thumbs Up

So did you also splice the camera positive and negative in to the reversing light so the camera also became live as you selected reverse? Or did you connect the camera to a constant live feed so you could switch over and view it at any time? If so where did you pick up the constant live feed from? The red cable tied with the video rca is to allow you to connect your headunit / screen reverse input. So when the red wire is powered, the headunit turns to the camera screen automatically.

In my install I fitted that red wire to the camera +ve power and connected both to the reverse light +ve, so when I put it in reverse, the camera powers up, and the headunit switches source to camera. My 90 Project : http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic52774.html

This looks interesting - what do you actually see the view on? Does it come with a screen? The listing isn't very clear (like the instructions it seems)....

I never throught I'd need a reversing camera for the Defender but for £13!!

Great that there was a huge pic of some girls wearimg a baby doll nightdress when I opened the ebay link - or was that jsut for me!! 2002MY Defender 90 H/T

Now sure what web site you were visiting but please do post the link..... Rolling with laughter

No screen included I wired to my head unit which has a camera input

I wanted to see the bottom of the spare wheel and to tow bar when reversing as these bits will be the first to hit anything! It's not finished yet but soon as it is I'll post some pictures Thumbs Up 2010 Defender 90 HT
