evoformance 1157 red LED bulb replacement won't work
Hey, I've purchased a pair of evoformance 1157 bulb replacement red LED to use for the tail/brake lights, but they don't work at all on the Puma.

Regular bulbs work, but the LED don't, neither of them. I tried on the Disco TD5 and they don't work either.

I know that, unlike good old bulbs, LED have a polarity but the 1157 is dual intensity (tail and stop lights) so there's no way they can be put any different way...

Is there a way to make those work on a Land Rover (Defender or Discovery) or should I just return them...? “A Land Rover immobilized is a moral defeat for the driver and bad publicity for the vehicle, […] it's up to you to do justice to your Land Rover!” - Land Rover Driving Technique.

weird, have you tried to hook them to a 12v source directly (a battery) to test whether they are defective? --

Small update, I just found out, the brake lights do light up on the car, it's only the (low intensity) tail lights part that don't.

And yet, both work if I try directly with a 9V battery... “A Land Rover immobilized is a moral defeat for the driver and bad publicity for the vehicle, […] it's up to you to do justice to your Land Rover!” - Land Rover Driving Technique.

If you are replacing a standard filament bulb with a LED cluster then that is illegal.

All obligatory vehicle lights have to be type approved by law. By replacing a standard filament bulb with a LED cluster you are doing an unauthorised modification and so are invalidating the type approval.

The best thing to do is replace the complete light unit with a correctly E marked brake and tail light.

Hi Brendan, I don't disagree, but I was merely gauging the water as I reckon complete LED lights are silly price, for what it actually is... (there is no more than a few pennies in electronic components inside).

And to be honest, I shall return those LED "bulbs" and remain fully standard with filament bulbs eventually, but I wondered why they wouldn't work on the Land Rover... “A Land Rover immobilized is a moral defeat for the driver and bad publicity for the vehicle, […] it's up to you to do justice to your Land Rover!” - Land Rover Driving Technique.
