Series Style Door Conversion
Hello,

Has anyone purchased SP 4x4's Series Style Door Conversion Kit and installed them on their Defender?
Just wondering what you think of them/whether you are happy with your purchase?

I think they look pretty cool and seem to be a good product, looking for feedback before I pull the trigger.

I think they're basically just Series Doors, Series doors fit, they just had a different catch plate i think.
Series doors were always getting floppy door tops that eventually broke and fell off. they always rotted badly along the bottoms, the window glass used to rattle and let in drafts and water.

They were also carried over on to Military defenders, because it makes it easy for them to convert a hard top into a completely roofless SAS style one.

Of course if you fit the Wolf type door tops, same on early 110's , they are very good as they are all aluminium and don't rot the same although they can fracture at the front, but they are a far better door top than the standard steel/ ali clad door tops.

Wolf door tops can crack, though with some magnesium welding, can be rejuvenated.
I did a bit about mine on my post in the v8 section.

If you buy the door bottoms, you will have to fit the strikers...which is only a case of drilling two holes.... But getting them in the right place can be time consuming.

I'm in the same position and asked for advise/info from forum members (see my thread in the tdi section). I think I have identified the parts I will need to order from SP over what comes in the conversion kit.
I have concerns about fitting the striker plates . Perhaps GREENI or someone else will pass on his knowledge/info as to how to do this without drilling too many holes. Knowledge is power!.

Hi,
I have been trying to contact SP 4x4 for about a week now. emails and phone calls, various times of the morning and afternoon. I am after the series door conversion kit, but wanted a few questions answered before placing an order on line. Anyone else had problems getting hold of them?. Cheers S.

I've just bought a pair of the SP4x4 doors for my Defender. I'm just having trouble convincing a body shop to even paint them for me. The first quote I got was £700!!!

For hole location.... close the door too (new half door), fit the striker from the inside, so it latches shut.. Then mark around the edges of the latch.... With the door open you can then offer the latch back up and mark the holes onto the body and drill.

It did take me a while getting the latch in the right location.

I coated all the inside of the door with black roadkill (like dynamat) and it now closes like the proverbial VW

Have you tried both info@sp-4x4.com and splandrover@hotmail.co.uk? I had reasonable luck when I sent an email to both...

Guy's , as always, many thanks for your advice. I will try the ebay contact route. Greeni, will keep the door cards under wraps. I saw they were doing the 'defender' door arm rests, but thought they wouldn't fit the series door tops. Cheers, S.

Hi, got through to Will's at SP 4x4 via the hot mail account. Doors ordered (series door conversion kit) and also ordered up the galvanised capping for the top of the bottom doors, along with foam gasket and lock finishers.
Just a thought- am I going to need shims for the strikers, bolts and nuts plates to fit ?, if so has anyone got the part numbers
As always, any help warmly received. GREENI any idea's?
S. Very Happy Thumbs Up

Ive got a set of these door tops. I can vouch that they are absolutely fantastic build quality. Much better than the SP ones, but you pay for it.
