Everyone thought I was mad when I kept my very late (N reg) RRC rather than trade up for a P38.

I've now owned it for 20 years and looked after it.

I have bored people witless with the reasons for keeping it, and they used to laugh.

They are not laughing now.

The secret is to spend good money on looking after it.

It will cost way less than the annual depreciation on a new vehicle.

I cruised over to Gaydon last weekend from Essex and overtook several later RR's on the M1, much to the annoyance of their drivers!

Keep all the electrics and gizmos - cruise control. air con, heated seats and mirrors etc in good condition and don't neglect anything.

The air-sus has been infallible and didn't need the rubber air bags changing from new until last year. Why go to coil springs?

I have kept mine completely to factory spec.

Useful too:

After an unfortunate combination of beer, ebay and boredom I bought a 2 door a few of years ago, non runner, lots of rust etc. Having soberred up I picked it up, poked around it and promptly sold it. I should have left it in the field appreciating.

I liked driving the P38 I had a few years back, apart from pulling out at a busy junction for which the 2.5 BMW lump needed notice in writing. If I get a classic it will need to be petrol, I'm only doing 50 miles a week so mpg isn't a drama.

There is one for sale close to me which I'm going to have a look at: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Restored-Range-R...Sww9xZBLh2

I fear it may fall into the tarted up category, but worth a look. It has been relisted, failing to sell first time around at that price.

I know virtually nothing about these, & whilst ya can never judge a car from color images, it does "look' very nice & original to me, particularly the interior. I suppose your major interest would be chassis/underneath/inner guards etc, but like I said, it does "look" good.
The owner's description sounds pretty genuine too!

Jonesfrm - what a dire game! We were sat behind some Glos fans that should have been at a football match - no applauding good play from the opposition, baying at the ref to card players etc, really sad to see. On the plus side had a good rattle with Carl Hogg in a pub near the ground, top bloke!

Now ready for round two, Saracens vs Clermont. I can't see Sarries losing with their strength in depth. Hopefully it will be a decent game!

I think the messaging is subliminal. This is parked outside the office every now and again. I'm not loving the wheels but it looks in great condition. Ideal for commuting in London....

You've definitely got it bad if you're convincing yourself that a V8 Range Rover is ideal for commuting in London Rolling with laughter Darren

Agree about the wheels, although it is clearly a very late one, as it has the "crush cans" on the front bumper.

If memory serves, I think it will also have side-impact protection in the doors.

Oh happy days, back in 1986 while waiting for my MG Montego to come out from a service I stood looking at the Range Rover for sale on the garage forecourt think how good would one of those be for towing the Caravan. A young salesman comes out and asks if S.H.M.B.O. and I would like to take one for a drive, S.H.M.B.O. had never driven an auto box but took to it like a duck. Two days later we are the owners of a Range Rover 3.0 auto towing a Caravan over to Manchester. It was pre owned and we kept it for 10 years. The only problem's we had was a rotten upper tailgate which let in water and when the garage messed about with the timing as the country was changing from leaded to unleaded petrol. We got rid when the front inner and outer wings started to rot, bought a Disco 1 Argyle just before the Disco 2 came out. I would love and old Classic again but the 14 M.P.G. put me off. Don't make old people mad.
We don't like being old in the first place,
so it doesn't take much to Censored us off.

Richard
