yeah, unfortunately by the time I got to my phone, it had stopped doing it.

Will monitor over the next few days, this is the first time ever that it has done something like this.

I estimate that the revs were going up by about 200-500rpm --

Clean the MAP and MAF sensors as a good start, free to do more or less as well.

Mine was gunked up, especially the MAP and had a significant increase in performance and quality of stable smooth idle. Diesels Lives Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️

Mine wasn't cleaned for years. Embarassed

Just didn't know anything much about it until recently with the wealth of knowledge here.

Worth a go anyway. Thumbs Up Diesels Lives Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️

captured some data yesterday at idle (hot) and 2000rpm. Do these look normal?

Finally got around to doing some checks on the car today.

Both the MAP and MAF were clean, no real gunk to speak of on either.

So I'll put it down to some dirt pickup due to having run the previous tank very low. I will make a note to tell my indie to drop & clean the tank and the next oil change in August, --

damn, it did it again this morning, ambient was 14C.

I can rule out the diesel as this was a different tank from a different petrol station.

what now? Question --

Change your VCV valve!
I had exactly the same symptoms over the winter.

You need to read live data when it's cold to get the fluctuations a bad VCV would give,
It should be all over the place on cold start up, getting better as it warms up. 80" 80" 86" 88" 90"

Wanted, Forward Control Anything considered.

As it's persistent, it could well be the VCV as suggested above.

None the less, it was worth cleaning the MAF & MAP sensors. Diesels Lives Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️

I thought it may have been, but this is a new tank from a different brand.

previous tank was BP, this is Caltex, both 50ppm. --

My 2.4 has symptoms which according to other threads is VCV, hunting, lacklustre feel, rough cold idle, so I reckon at around 40 a new VCV is worth a try.
However, I've only got an icarsoft i810 obd computer thing and I don't know if that will do the re-learn.
What happens if I don't do the learn, does it eventually learn itself over a number of miles?
