England 2009 Defender 90 Puma 2.4 XS CSW Stornoway Grey
LEDs all round ?
afternoon ladies and gents, going to get either wipac or rdx lights and fit them this week end, are they plug and play?, ive just seen something on youtube that shows making new spade connectors, and drilling the new holes in the bodywork as the screw holes are in a different place ?

I have a 2001 TD5 and went with the WIPAC set. My existing reverse and fog lights are the square/rectangle type (which I actually prefer). Included in the kit are round NAS style on plinths. So, there will be some fettling when I get around to it...the reverese and fog are currently sat under my desk. All the others were simple plug and go. TD5 Defender 90

300TDI onwards are plug and play; and use the existing screw holes in to plastic fixings.

Older land rovers will require drilling holes (very stright forward for self tappers); and ideally adding new style connectors to the loom, or chopping off and using new bullet crimps all round.

Crimps are not ideal where you expect to get water; but are easily accessible and can be replaced if you get any issues later on. Eitherway they are an improvement of the original old style lamps and bulbs

I have a RDX and their Relay. Faultless, no issues.

On a Puma, they have Econoseal connectors which are plug and play.
No wiring involved.
However, you may need to crimp the connectors which isn't difficult and identify the positive and negative power feeds.

If you have no multimeter to do this, I'm sure embers here can tell you the wire colours instead.

Older Land Rovers require larger holes cut into the bodywork to clear the later light bodies and the later lights will require Econseal connectors adding to the loom as the connectors on the lights are a moulded part of the body.

Not with the RDX ones, as they have small tails on the back, you can just cut off the econoseal connector. Although it is a better connector so would make sense to fit one to the loom.

The backs of the RDX lamps are flat so you wouldn't need to enlarge the hole either.

If your current lamp lenses are retained by screws then you wont need to drill screw holes for the RDX lamps. If your current lamps are the old ones where the lens pushes into a rubber retainer and has a chrome locking ring, then you'll need to drill holes.

The wipac ones may be diferent, i've only used the RDX ones.

I took ages deciding what to go for and colours...

Went for wipac fronts and NAS style wipac rears on aluminum plinths.

Much brighter and safer : plug and play (with the relay also)
