Defender 110 Td5
After lurking here for a while, and lusting after a defender for a while, I finally took the plunge last week. Long story short - had a Discovery 3, rolled it in France, (foolishly) replaced it with an RRS, then last week p/x'd that against a 2001 Td5 with a bit of an interesting history.

The seller reckons it was owned by an aircraft engineer - it has lots of lights, and LOTS of switches! Looking through the MOT history, it clearly had a rear cross member problem, and the seller replaced that relatively recently with an extended unit.

Seems to drive OK, although a few power issues under load - maybe a service will sort that out as it's been stood for a while.

All I've done to it so far is drive it, and replace the stereo with one with hands free (an easy job)

Job list currently:
- Figure out what all the light switches do...
- Replace front and second row seats with Exmoor Trim Premium (mainly so I get headrests in the second row)
- Replace lock barrels with later version locks, and matching ignition barrel, so it all works off one key
- Waxoyl Chassis
- Fit electric windows
- Fit remote central locking/get the current system working
- Fit heated wing mirror kit (bought off Mudstuff...)
- Find random rear left rattle and secure
- Fit Mudstuff rear door trim
- Fit Mantec spare wheel carrier
- Fit auxiliary heating
- All the other stuff that will inevitably crop up and test me...

Enjoying being part of the defender club!

Congratulations! TD5's are the best engines out there (IMO of course)

Station wagon? Check the window panes in the rear, they tend to rattle!

With regards to rear crossmember problem, that's a standard feature that LR fit from the factory Laughing

Cheers @miker.

I don't think it's the windows - I think it's one of the side spotlamps. About to drive the housemate home so will check it then Smile

Do you have any experience of the ECU remaps? Any good?

Haven't got too many pics of the new beast, but here's a few, including the stereo upgrade.

Not yet, it's somewhere on the list below "sort that driveline clunk" and "refoam front seats"!!!

Alive tuning and Bell Auto Services are the two I've looked at, there are several well respected tuners out there though!

Welcome

I don't get on here that much to busy and not fixing my Landy.

Although had to spend too much on her this year.

Like the top dash panel with the lighter sockets instead of ashtray

Id give it a thorough service before all the mods. That way you've sorted out the most important aspect before all the cosmetic stuff Wink
TD5 is a great vehicle if looked after Thumbs Up
