Hi all,
I'm a bit lost now I've got rid of the 300tdi, I'm on LRO's forum but it seems there's not a huge experience of Pumas on there. Time for a change then I suppose ! I bought this defender with 100k on the clock, mainly motorway miles and it's been fantastic until this.... Oh and the seized wiper spindles..... What a pig of a job ! I'm get a loud and fast ticking from somewhere in the engine bay when I push the engine. Generally it's when I'm pushing her over 60-65 going up hill or when accelerating moderately at 70. I had the cattle trailer on last week and with that loaded up it did it going up every hill even at 10mph ! So it seems to be load related. My local specialist thought it was the fuel rail sensors ?? Which were changed at great expense and hasn't made the slightest difference . I'm thinking injectors or turbo related. Anyone have any thoughts or similar experiences ? The diagnostic tool comes up with absolutely nothing. I'm sure the sounds getting louder and I don't want the engine to eat the turbo. There are no leaks anywhere. Cheers guys |

First thing I'd check would be that I didn't have a loose injector.

Thanks, I've just checked and all seems fine. No.1 looks a little wet around the head but nothing serious

I agree with Blackwolf, I had that problem and it was injector no.1 that was loose.

I thought I ought to mention the fix.
It turned out that two injectors were shot, to be expected on a 120k defender I suppose. I replace all four and it's done 2k floorlessly since ! I must point out though that both a Land Rover expert and a Bosch diesel specialist didn't pick this up so don't take their word for it ! |

Out of interest did you ever try a fuel treatment?
I'd be curious to know if you use any, or did to try and cure it? I'm guessing maybe not at all? Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧 |

Yes I tried some Wynns and also a tank of high octane diesel but that didn't work.
I had to bite the bullet and purchase new injectors . Glad I did though as the change was instant, far more power and the engine was quieter than it's been in months . Currently about to sell the defender but trying to get to the bottom of an intermittent immobiliser issue ! Need to do it ASAP as I've already bought another ! |

Click image to enlarge Here she is , absolutely fantastic 110 xs, only selling as purchased a Keswick green double cab (what i always wanted !) . I'll pop the boost alloys back on and take the winch off as it's only been used three times . Don't want someone negotiating on that ! |
