I have never had to remove the inner handle to remove the door card just remove the fasteners and slide it over the lock it should take minutes. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

Yes pop out the cover on the door handle.
Remove screws from grab handle and remove. Now the tricky bit. You need a trim removal tool preferably. You need to pop out the plastic trim retainers located around the edge of the door card. Carefully pulling the card with fingers helps to identify their location, and the trim tool will pop them out. if you don't have a trim tool then you can use a broad flat bladed scewdriver or get your fingers under the card and pull. You do run the risk of breaking the clips or the plastic card though. From memory there is a retaining clip in the centre of the door card which can be carefully pulled off. Not a big job, but does require care - replacement door cards are expensive  . |

I do need to get a trim popping tool. I never have one when I need one which is surprisingly often  Hoprfully a knife from the cutlery draw covered in masking tape will suffice - I'll give it a go in the morning. The dog has dragged me to the coast  110 DCPU

A nice warm sunny day will be ya friend also,
Plastic moves and bends better when warm, In general I don't do ANY trim removal unless all is warm |

Definitely need a trim removal tool, one of those was the best investment i've ever made in a tool i think.
You can do it without one, but you'll likely end up breaking either the clips or the moulding on the door card that the clips fit into. If you ever removed one of the side door cards, then you definitely need a tool for those anyway, as they always break if you don't use one. Try not to get the all in one tools, the ones that look like a nail puller (like the back of a claw hammer) are the most versatile, athough i've also got one of the plier type ones and they're quite good for door cards. |

The quality varies so much with these things - it's good to get a specific recommendation. I like the idea of the nylon kits to minimise damage/scratches. 110 DCPU

The plastic ones are a bit too fat really, they tend to break the door cards more as the ramps on the ends of them are too steep.
I had a metal Sykes Pickavant one, but it seems they're no longer available. I've also got this set, they're not bad; http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CT1576-4PC-Door-...Swv0tVTJe5 Cheap and cheerful, but they work quite well. |

There is only 1 way the tail door opens. Hinges on the vehicles right side.... (no RH or LH side) However, with the first and second row door cards, the clips are mirrored from side to side. it's a Landrover thing... my renovation thread: http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic40792.html |

Delintely use tapes to protect the paint or it will chew it badly, as mentioned earlier.
Warmer weather is indeed a good idea, and when you do it go easy. Use just enough force to remove it one by one. Take you're time, no rush. To much force too fast will create breakages. But I've had mine off of all doors and back on with no problems at all with any door cards. If anywhting the front are more tricky.
