A quick question about grease
My tub of grease ran out today so a quick trip to Halfords for a new tub. However the only grease they stocked was CV & Lith-Moly Grease. The grease I have always used is Multi-Purpose grease.

Now my question is this, will CV & Lith-Moly Grease be OK for greasing the prop shaft and the U joints. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

Yes Thumbs Up

If it's the Comma one, it says multi-purpose on the tub. Darren

It is the Comma one but does not say general purpose the tub looks like

Says

A lithium based CV Lith-Moly grease of Number 2 (medium) consistency, containing Molybdenum disulphide. Ideally suited to use in constant velocity or homokinetic joints. Not to be used on wheel bearings.

Lithium-based grease, containing Molybdenum disulphide. Specially formulated for use in CV joints.
High in extreme pressure additives to give long life under heavy loads.
Chemically compatible with polymeric boot material.
Includes a laminar solid lubricant which overcomes boundary lubrication.
Good corrosion protection – Rust inhibited to protect bearing surfaces. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

Hmm, ok. It's hard to believe it's any different from this one pictured on the Halfords website:

http://www.halfords.com/motoring/engine-oi...rease-500g

I think they've just got different versions of the same pack as the Comma website shows a slightly different one again.

They all seem to mention 'multi-purpose' somewhere though, so I wouldn't worry about it.

Wheel bearings need different grease than multipurpose grease. Roel

CV joints usually use a slightly more runny grease. It'll likely get chucked out of UJ's quickly

Comma specify this;

For the propshafts.

What you've posted above is this;

The CV will probably work, but not be ideal. It's just like engine oil, any engine oil is better than none, but it's always best to use the correct one.
