Re-registering a Defender as a Motor Caravan
Hi

Whilst I believe I am clear on what I need to do to re-register a camper converted 2007 Defender TDCI 110 from a 'Station Wagon' body type to a 'Motor Caravan', what I am not clear on is whether it is possible to change the tax classification from 'Diesel Car' to 'Private Light Goods' - can anybody please advise?

thanks in advance

Private/Light Goods ceased to exist a long time ago (at the time that EU Type Approval came along) so it isn't relevant. What you actually want is N1 Light Goods, and sadly the answer is no. Not on an 07, unless it was type approved as N1 (eg a DCPU).

Thanks for this.

Having looked into this it seems post 2011 it would be N1.....has anybody successfully managed to change a 2007 to 2010 Defender from M1 to N1....i.e. I was wondering whether the DVLA would consider such a change based on the change of body type to Motor Caravan (meanings it would be used less etc)?

No chance, it can't be done. If your vehicle was type approved as M1, essentially that's the tax class you're stuck with.

You'd have to start with an N1 vehicle.
