BBUS problems, 300Tdi
I was looking at a friends 300Tdi 110 last night. totally box standard (ex electricity board, had a split charge and some other lighting in the raised rear roof bit)

He'd left it parked for a few monthe, main battery was dead flat. Connected up a new battery and the BBUS unit started wailing (and the horn, as they're connected via the 10AS)

I unplugged the BBUS and horn, and the engine could be started OK. so it wasn't immobilised. (he does have a plipper on the keys, with a new battery in, but it doesn't seem to do much)

We left the engine running for a good while, started and stopped it several times, AOK, but as soon as the BBUS is plugged back in, off it goes again. Tried leaving it wailing for 5 or so minutes on the off chance it might be a flat battery internally, and the main vehicle battery might charge it up a little then shut it up, but no luck.

I have a nanocom and tried that in the OBD socket that the Tdi has, hoping it might be able to connect to the 10As, but it seems not, think the nanocom can only talk to a Td5 engine ECU.

Anyone got any ideas? at the moment the vehicle starts and runs perfectly, we've just left the BBUS unplugged (chap didn't even know it had one, it had never gone off before, so no real loss there)

Anyone got any ideas?

cheers

have you tried resetting the alarm?

It sounds a little like the alarm wasnt disabled and as such the BBS will go off until you reset the alram system, which should be as simple and rearming the alarm with everything shut and closed...assuming the fob is still synced to the car etc. (a flat keyfob battery may be out of sync with the car and needs to be cycled to get it back in line. Mike

Oh if you can access the alarm ECU you will be able to turn off the BBUS and change some other settings on 300 discos you could change the alarm sound too. Mike

If its the new Nanocom with the colour touch screen it can talk to the 10AS, if its the original then no.

Alas Mark.... the BBUS unit (eventhough it's plastic) looks as rusty as the rest of the vehicle.

And it clearly has a fault on it too.

Apparently ex disco/rangie BBUS units will work on a defender (I'm not 100% sure but I think they do)... as I want one on mine too.

Any Defender/Disco BBUS should work, however be aware that the battery in the older ones up for sale may useless.

Do not get AMR4971, although cheaper it won't work, see this thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic35612.html
