Ah, I saw that!

If I try disconnecting it and cranking the engine, what should happen?

Take the ECU with you when you park

I went for a thick chain and a lock. Defender 110 SW MY2011 2.4tdci decat, no EGR

Pardon my lack of sparky knowledge....do you have a legend for the diagrams such as wire size?as i can guess what the numbers and letters mean but im not sure!

I've never tried this but I think it is most likely that the engine won't crank, since the starter circuit is enabled by the ECU. It is however possible that the starter circuit is enabled until inhibited by the ECU after engine start, in which casse it would crank but not fire.

In the UK that won't stop a determined serial Defender thief since he (or she) will most likely bring a 'generic' ECU with the security features disabled to plug in in place of the vehicle's own ECU anyway. It's a quick way to get round the immobiliser.

The thief with a generic ECU is the reason I am looking at putting a voltage where it shouldn't be rather than cutting a voltage from where it should be (as with a kill switch). For example, putting a permanent voltage across the injectors so they won't pulse, would be hard to find if spliced in carefully.

Edit. If the injector is fired by a ground pulse (permanent +12 feed) then a switch putting a constant ground across all pulse connections is what I am talking about. Hard to spot and not quick to overcome.
