Hi Stephen

That's great. Thanks very much. It looks as if the holes on the tow ball match the holes on the LR tow-bar fitted to your 90 without a need for drilling??? Am I correct??

Sammyboy that tow arm looks ideal for what I want.
In English I found it here.

My only question :- is it alko suitable, with the required longer neck under the ball? I can't see any such detail.
By any chance do you know?

Chris.

That dropped ball, although sounding somewhat medical, sounds a good solution for solving the problem of a slightly too high towball. I've just emailed Thule UK to check on availability here, suitability (I'd want to use it on the LR height adjustable towbar as opposed to the slider), and cost. I'll post the response, if any. I couldn't open the link posted, sadly. Ian One wife - livid

Thule or Brink???
Hope you have better luck than I did. Thule replied saying all there tow products are now dealt with by Brink. Emailed Brink two weeks ago and still had no reply 😬😬

There's a Thule specialist called Motaman listed in Bristol. I've emailed them as well, and once again will post the response, if any. Ian One wife - livid

I have the thule drop ball

I bought online from Germany

just to flag that the bolts are smaller than standard defender

I does fit the four holes in the tow braket but it is smaller holes mating to bigger holes which was a concern.

You need thick washers to spread from behind to fit the nuts supplied

Ah .......... that smaller bolt size would put me off, unless it was possible to drill out the holes a bit without effecting the integrity. Ian One wife - livid

I wasnīt absolutely sure, but just went out and checked. My Thule tow ball was supplied with a generously dimensioned 8 mm steel backing plate and four 10 mm bolts. The original tow ball only has two 12 mm bolts. The 10 mm bolts in 12.5 mm holes, are well looked after. 1998 Tdi 90 SW,

I agree it looks just perfect. However, like you I would like to know from anyone if this is compatible with an ALKO tow hitch on a caravan.

I just asked my son who towed a rented 2016 Hobby caravan with our 90, last summer. It was fitted with the standard anti-sway towing mechanism, but he couldnīt recall if it was from ALKO. He had no problems whatsoever. It clamped down fine.

The horizontal distance from the tow ball to the bracket is 47 mm, if that is any help. 1998 Tdi 90 SW,

Thanks. The alko towball is different in having a longer neck. The hitch will attach and be fine in 95% of times to a normal one, but in certain extreme towing circumstances can hit the neck bottom and unhitch.
But it does look like it has the longer neck
