Paint Thickness on LR Alloys
Anyone found the standard metallic silver paint to be really thin? I'm going at my wheels (deep dish) with some polish by hand, as I've found it to be the only thing that will remove the peculiar baked on grease/brake dust grime caked into them. Finding it very very easy, especially on edges, to go through the paint and see the white basecoat coming through.

I'm not overly concerned, as it isn't noticeable unless really close, and I may well repaint them in the future anyway to get rid of the corrosion, just wondered if it was a common issue!

If someone has used that acid alloy wheel cleaner to an excessive extent it eats away at the lacquer, given enough time it'll thin it out.

The boost alloys i took off mine seemed to have q pretty good coating on them, the Sawtooths i've replaced them with seem really thickly coated too. The 2004 L322 i had before has quite scabby wheels in places but where there was paint it seemed pretty good, but i had those refurbed pretty soon after getting it because of all the kerb damage.
The paint on my mini's alloys is really good, still near perfect after 19 years (i know it's not a Land Rover, but it was still built by the Rover Group, chances are they used the same wheel supplier)

I've found this stuff really good for regular cleaning.

Agitate it with a brush once sprayed on.

The LR boosts on my 2003 defender have a very thin coat of paint. I know this because it has mostly fallen off and I am now looking at refurb inn them.

But do I get them done by an alloy refurb place or spray them myself... That is the question....

Or of course pick up a replacement set on here of eBay...

I had two sets of Jaguar alloys refurbed by Lepsons, full dip and strip refurb.

I was amazed by the quality of the refurb, even the tyre fitter couldn't beleive they weren't brand new wheels. Far better than a general body shop could manage let alone doing them at home.
