G'Day Pete.
Gotta be "factory option" Defender Recaros for you my friend!
I think they have a special "base" so that you can still access your seat boxes?
You could probably still get 'em on special order from JLR.
Regards, Martin.
NB: It's interesting that you & others find the standard seats not too flash. As you know, we don't do much off road, but we do a LOT of long distance cruising 800k+ in a day etc, & Karen & I have always commented that the standard part leather seats we have are very good. We've had AMGs, several other so called "good" cars with nice seats etc, but we find the Defender seats excellent, especially in view of the very "bouncy" suspension......neither of us have ever had a sore back, numb bum etc!!....each to his own I suppose.

Nice to hear a good word for the standard seats. They are somewhat short in the cushion, but I survived about 200000 Km in my two previous Defenders, on the standard seats, and as far as I can remember, loved the journeys. Martin Thumbs Up .

However, the Recaros are in a different league, for my backside, at least. They feel quite hard and uncompliant when you first climb in. But like a good walking shoe, or ski boot, it is that defined and supporting shape that works itīs magic on long journeys. The SVX ones are easy to climb in and out of, and I personally wouldnīt want fixed base seats in a Defender. There are a few fuses you might one day need to access, probably on a dark rainy night, and the storage space under the seats is generally useful.

All worth keeping in mind.

It is worth making the effort to find a Defender with aftermarket seats, before making the decision. BTW, those extended seat bases, mentioned previously in this thread seem to make good sense, as an economic solution to the OPīs problem.

My LRI Solutions Recaros have removable seat bases and are heated in the seat and back. I found the original seats in my 2014 90 horribly uncomfortable.
