Metalic squeel at 2000rpm. Turbo?
Hi,

I have a very annoying screaching/ vibrating noise at just over 2000rpm

No its not the heat shield as it not fitted atm Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

It will do it hot or cold only when your driving. not when stationary

I keep wondering if its the turbo as it not been as lively as its been for a while now.

It always used to rev hard when static but wont go over 3000rpm now. Yes I no some dont but would cause it to just not rev any more now??

If the turbo modulator is faulty would that limit the revs?? Can the turbo make a noise if its faulty?

I was towing the other day & I had a load of oil spots on the front of the trailer when I got home Confused

Any thoughts?? Chris

First things I would check are (1) split in pipe from turbo to intercooler, which is a common problem and can be very hard to spot, and (2) blowing gasket between manifold and turbo or head and manifold. Any of these can produce the symptoms you describe.

If the pipe has been recently fitted, check that it isn't being rubbed by the steering column joint where the column enters the box. This is the most common cause of pipe failure.

Try and source where the oil coming from.

Could be alt failing or tensioner or other pulley loading the engine.

Squealing usually a dried out bearing.

Had a td5other day suspected seized engine as wouldn't turn over. Just had a seized idler puller. Cheers

Oil spots on the front of the trailer may be the rear diff pinion seal.

or t box seal.

i think the two are unrelated.

try running it ancil belt off see if it still squeals.

if it was turbo bearing gone you would get burnt engine oil and massive over fuelling with black smoke.

i presume it does it engine speed related only? ie always at 2000rpm irrespective of road speed? Cheers

Could be Turbo manifold gasket, the OEM is not of high quality. I would look at replacing it for the Nakatanenga just in case. 2016 Defender 90 Adventure Edition
