United Kingdom 2008 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 CSW Zambezi Silver
The Dark Side
As Defender prices seem to be on the rise, and Disco 4 prices for the earlier ones are more affordable, I'm thinking about selling the 110 and buying a Disco 4. There seems to be stuff out there which looks good for around £15k. Mine is a CSW in good nick, full service history, two owners, etc., and is used for an everyday drive and towing a twin axle caravan. Looking for a bit more comfort as much as anything. Anyone else made this progression? Ian One wife - livid

we have the best of both worlds where my parter has a D4 and I have a puma ... the D4 is an awesome bit of kit and off road its amazing .. my 110 is our work horse and my pride and joy, but the D4 does the posh drives out.

slight worry about the cost of things when they go wrong, but we will have to see how that goes!

I have had both a D3 and for many years Defenders. The D3 and 4's are supremely capable and for me it was the most practical and comfortable vehicle I have owned. They can be a tad expensive to service but if you get a good one I doubt you would be disappointed.

Yes had both. D4 very comfortable and capable, does pretty much everything well, incredible tow vehicle . MPG same as my 110 at 25. Went back to 110 before end of production but do miss D4 at times. But you don't get the Defender feeling with a D4.

Horses for courses but a D4 is a better day to day vehicle.

Ian,
I've had D3 and D4. Absolutely amazing vehicles both on the highway and off road. Used them to tow my Ifor Williams horse trailer with two large horses (2000kg in total). Like so many modern vehicles they are not easy to repair yourself, particularly when the electronics fail. If you want a comfortable vehicle which is highly capable off road and will tow anything then go for a D4.

If you want something with character instead of comfort then you've only got the Defender to choose from. Very Happy Defender 90XS SW

Many thanks for these comments. Nothing adverse about the D4 apart from the cost factor it seems. Apart from non LR vehicles I've towed with a 3.9 V8 Disco, a 2.5 petrol 2.5 90, and a TD5 Disco before the Defender, which is by far the best of that selection for towing. There's a D4 in Scunthorpe, which is quite a way from me, so I need to research a few pertinent questions for the dealer. It has air suspension, which became a pain on the TD5. Ian One wife - livid
