Ideally yes, it's best practice.
I would have thought EPDM rubber would be ideal, mailable, UV resistant etc. (Not that it matters too much.) Basically pond liner. Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧 |

I used some thin self adhesive closed cell foam.
It's far more important on a Puma with it's steel bonnet. But its still good practice on an older alloy bonnet, it'll also help with sound insulation |

Closed cell foam would be okay too, so long as it doesn't take on any water. It should do. Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧

I think that's the definition of closed cell foam, open cell foam on the other hand is like a sponge.
