"They all do that Sir".

It's the EGR self clean. If you search the forum for Chucka noise youll find more information than you ever dreamed Very Happy 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

Probably the EGR valve. Was it a sort of chukka-chukka-chukka noise?

If so it is fairly normal, a feature rather than a bug. It is when it stops doing it that you'll need a new EGR valve.

It's usually the first question asked by someone new to the Puma-engined Defender! You aren't the first to ask.

Your nexr question will come when you look underneath and think there's a mounting missing between the gearbox crossmember and gearbox. There isn't, they're all like that!

Welcome to the forum, and welcome to the tempestuous world of Puma Defender ownership. Thumbs Up

Blackwolf, and everyone who answered my very basic question thanks very much, my next thing to try is low and high when I find a quiet road, I understand you don't drive it in low on normal roads, due to wind up? I cant believe the wealth of knowledge on this forum, its brilliant, and am so pleased I got my defender, I actually look forward to getting in it Thumbs Up
cheers
Pete

You can drive it in low on tarmac, but not with difflock. The two things are independent. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS
