XS Suspension change for 285/75/16's?
Hi, I have a 2007 90 XS. I have just bought some Sawtooths with 285/75/16 tyres. Before I fit them I want to have a look at the standard suspension. I am led to believe the XS has a 2" lift as standard? Is this correct?

If this is not correct what upgrade would you recommend? I'd like to tackle all of this before I swap out the Boosts. I already have weight upfront with a tubular winch bumper and winch.

Any help would be appreciated.

The XS does not have a 2 inch lift as standard. Can't help with the rest tho'. Darren

I fitted the same size tyres (Cooper STT PRO) and while they do fit fine, you will probably need 30mm spacer (I did anyway).

They do fit with standard suspension but you will loose a fair bit of articulation.

Thank you - those are the exact same tyres.

The reason I guess why I had thought that the XS has a 2" lift was because the early models have heavy duty springs (I thought I had read somewhere they had a lift as well).

I'll fit them over the weekend and see how it goes. I do have a set of 30mm spacers on the XS already.

I appreciate the help. Any further help around a lift and the best approach would be appreciated. I'd ideally like to find the best overall off the shelf kit. From what I can see from here http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic5345.html this is a fairly emotive subject. 2007 Defender 90 XS

Depends what you do. If you do a lot of off roading then it may be wise to look at new suspension. If you do mainly road and some greenlanes you'll probably be fine tbh.

I've got TF Medium Load springs coupled with TF Big Bore dampers, the ride is great, handling is very good as well and the kit doesnt lift it so much that you need cranked arms etc... Cost around ~£300ish. Only thing is the paint is very poor, I would suggest painting with Plastidip or similar.

Just don't fit HD Springs they ruin the ride.

That is very useful thanks. What you have is pretty much exactly what I am looking for. I don't particularly want to get in to having to address cranked arms etc.

Use is a combination of on road, green-lane and limited off-road. With the 30mm spacers and the offset from your alloys, do the Coopers stick out beyond the wheel arches or have you fitted wider wheel arches? 2007 Defender 90 XS

Mine came with wider arches and the tyres sit just inside, you may be ok on standard arches, just fit and see.

I had that exact set fitted on my 90, cant complain. Everyone actually commented on how well it handled and that was with a half cage and no ARBs

I have 285/75/16 on my 110 with standard suspension set up.

I think personally you'd be better with 265/75's on a 90.

IMO 285's look that little bit too big on a 90. and it also means you won't have any worries about suspension mods. Unless you're an extreme off roader or want to go laning a lot, i wouldn't bother.

I also have 285/75/16 on my 110 without any suspension changes but the 30mm spacers. However I am planing new suspension with a slight lift with these tires. Here stock suspension:

It all depends on the offset and width of the new wheels. Are there numbers on the back of the wheels somewhere that say et then a number? Ray

Cheers, thanks for the pictures. I fitted everything over the weekend - I am very happy with the result. There is no rubbing in full lock either way but I do suspect I will have some articulation issues. I've since fitted the Land Rover wheel centers.
