United Kingdom 2005 Defender 110 2.5 TD SW Zambezi Silver
Rear Windows Dropping Open On Their Own!
I have a problem with my 2005 Defender Td5 Station Wagon in that over a period of time the rear (non-electric) windows actually drop open by anything up to 3". This is a real pain as it means I need to keep checking that the windows are shut tight! Today the garage which does my repairs 'phoned me to say that they took an 11 plate Defender out for a short road test and on returning they found both rear windows had dropped. They have asked me that if I get any tips to pass them on to them! 2005 Defender 110 Td5 Special Vehicles Station Wagon Zambezi Silver With Black Roof And Black Wheel Arches/Eyebrows.

Have a quick look through this thread:-

Top tips wise, reposition the window winder handle so the weight of the handle pushes the window closed rather than open.

They come off after removing a circlip on the winder stem, easy to do and effective, i've done it on my 2002 CSW and had no further issues. Sandy

Roll those windows fully up. Remove the window winding handles and put them back horizontally with the handle pointing to the rear. When the window wants to slide, the handle needs to move upward first and its weight may help to keep the window closed. It works in my case.

Edit - Sandy just beat me to it. Laughing Thumbs Up You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

My 2005 110 CSW rear windows do this.

Currently the winder handles are facing forwards (with the windows closed) so l'll put them on facing rearwards and see what happens!

A very common problem, often blamed on kids.

Position the window winder correctly and you can use a short bungee from the winder knob to the door handle (the handle for shutting the door, obviously, not the one for opening the door).

Alternatively fit an electric window conversion.

I repositioned the winding handles as suggested (facing rearwards) and it appears that this is sufficient to stop the rear windows lowering on their own, with no bungee cord needed....who would have thought it.

I kept blaming the kids too, until my wife asked "what kids"...

If you want to add a little something else to your Defender, installing a set of rear wind deflectors (Heko make them) narrows the window gap enough to hold the windows up regardless of where the handles are. Plus with the added benefit that when the windows are cracked open to let air in no rain gets in...
