Puma Window blocks - Advice please
Hello everyone.
Seeking your wisdom please.
My window blocks seem to last about 2 years before corrosion sets in. Cleaned the car this weekend and there it is again! Third time now on two different Defenders.
Seems more trouble than it is worth to claim on warranty again, ( car in for examination, then one or two days to rectify), so was going to order up OEM blocks and colour match to car myself.
A quick search found black coated anodised aluminium brackets from Famous Four for around £50.
These look similar to the OEM ones and would go with the Black Pack on the car. Saves me the trouble of colour matching too. Smile

Wondered if anyone had experience of aftermarket window blocks and how long they are likely to last before they too corrode.
I would prefer to use window blocks that are near identical to OEM.
Thanks for any information and advice.

Stephen

I think the standard ones are made from fairly low grade cast ally, and probably not painted all that well by the body shop. The corrosion seems to start from the face where it goes onto the body which is normally left bare. Some grease on it and a paper gasket would help.

Anodised ones are always going to last a a lot longer than painted ones. I've not got experience of anodised windscreen blocks, but my mini has had anodised brake calipers on it since about 2004 and done about 50'000 miles. No obvious corrosion on them after living in road salt, brake dust and the weather with barely any washing.

There is also no reason why you can't paint over the anodising.

I've just fitted the Gore replacements: http://goreproducts.com/products/defender-windscreen-brackets

My original blocks lasted just over a year. Decided it wasn't worth the time to arrange a warranty repair.

Thats a very good point - when i read window blocks I assumed meant the ones on the sliding glass that corrode so easily!!

Must read more detail next time!!

Thanks for your help and advice. Will probably order up a pair of Landrover blocks and paint to match. The left over paint will come in for stone chips etc. Time will tell how good my paint skills are Laughing
