I think the standard ones are made from fairly low grade cast ally, and probably not painted all that well by the body shop. The corrosion seems to start from the face where it goes onto the body which is normally left bare. Some grease on it and a paper gasket would help.
Anodised ones are always going to last a a lot longer than painted ones. I've not got experience of anodised windscreen blocks, but my mini has had anodised brake calipers on it since about 2004 and done about 50'000 miles. No obvious corrosion on them after living in road salt, brake dust and the weather with barely any washing. There is also no reason why you can't paint over the anodising. |

I've just fitted the Gore replacements: http://goreproducts.com/products/defender-windscreen-brackets
My original blocks lasted just over a year. Decided it wasn't worth the time to arrange a warranty repair. |

Thanks for your help and advice. Will probably order up a pair of Landrover blocks and paint to match. The left over paint will come in for stone chips etc. Time will tell how good my paint skills are
