Rooftent and Anti Roll Bars
I am just about to take delivery of a James Baroud Hardshell rooftent and am wondering whether the handling characteristics of the 90 will be drastically affected. I don't think that I have anti roll bars as standard, (I believe steel wheels at delivery dictates that they are not fitted). I am going to fit the tent to 3 rhino rack HD bars so no heavy roof rack to consider either.

The 90 is a 2.4 2011 model so has the mounts fitted - as such, if I do need the anti roll bars then what would I need to buy to complete the fitting as there are several different kits available.

Appreciate any comments from anybody who has experience either with or without.

Cheers. 2011 Defender 90 SW

Hey. Any increased weight up top will have an effect on handling. Though favourable to have anti roll bars, they do restrict off road ability.

I'm sure Barouds are the best and lighter than most, just adjust your driving style accordingly and all should be good.

Congrats on the Baroud, it would be my choice of rtt. Thumbs Up

I guess it depends on the extent of off roading you do? I certainly wouldn't be without the standard ARB's we have on our 110 SW but then we 95% on road.

I'd speak to Ian at IRB Developments or Alive for advice Thumbs Up James

Thanks GREENI. I will see how it goes then - I'm a definite 'plodder' anyway so hopefully won't need anything. Really looking forward to getting the tent on top. Had a close up look at a few and happy with the choice Very Happy 2011 Defender 90 SW

Hi James - thanks. I will certainly look into it if I have any problems or alarms. Only really use the 90 when I'm in slow mode so will see how it goes. 2011 Defender 90 SW

You might well have anti roll bars fitted, they seem to be one of the things that were fitted slightly at random.
My poverty spec 2011 Defender has them.

FWIW, I noticed a difference in handling after the following changes:

- Removing ARB
- Reinstalling ARB
- Installing roof tent (with ARB fitted)

This is on a 110.

Given the slightly more unsettling differences felt I wouldn't opt for the (untested) tent and non-ARB option.

I think it's a case that you'll be fine ... until you aren't? Solved the bowel problem, working on the consonants...

Ah ok guys - thanks. I'm working away for another week so can't go check underneath to see if they are fitted...
If I do need them then, do I just buy a kit from paddocks or similar which has all the fittings and bushes etc for roughly £160, or do I not need all those bits if the chassis fittings are in place? Sorry for not having a clue Embarassed
Thanks for your advice.

Ignore this question as I've found a thread with all the info Smile 2011 Defender 90 SW
