bitumen paint on tyres
Hi

I managed to drive over a tin of bitumen paint a few weeks back. The tin exploded and sent lovely thick black paint everywhere. Luckily not that much on the car. Just the front wheel and tyre (BFG A/T's).

I cleaned it off the wheel, but there was quite a bit left on the tyre. Even a few weeks on you can still see the residue.

We are off on a long trip through france shortly and I keep wondering if the paint would have a detrimental effect on the tyre.

What do you think?

I could just swap it with the spare, but the spare is brand new and the other tyres have done about 8k miles.

Would the difference in the amount of tread be noticeable when driving? ---------------------------------------------------------------

I would be sure to remove all trace of diesel off your tyre if you do use it Shocked

The tiniest amount of spilt diesel on the road turns the surface into an ice-rink and takes the lives of many motorcyclists each year the world over. Cleaning a tyre with the stuff should be a last resort.

White spirit could be a consideration but long term affects of using any form of solvent on your tyre could be something to think about and it may be a slip hazard too. Perhaps use anything sparingly and give the tyre a very good clean to remove any solvent/fuel residue as soon possible afterwards. Phil

Would deflating the tyre ( to 10psi for example) and then moving the vehicle forwards and backwards through one wheel revolution help flex the paint off? 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon
