OK I might be seen as repeating myself about these cheap LED headlights.

Now I can not see any technical data on the link put up by Nick the OP. i.e. can not see any information about E mark, IP rating, light output, if UK specification. I do not appear to be able to zoom in on the photographs to read the markings on the lens.

As customsteve says it is not possible to align main beam separately from dipped beam as that is controlled by the inbuilt reflector and position of the LEDs.

Personally I would doubt any high IP rating given on these lights.

Please look carefully at the photograph and at the wiring. The wiring looks like 4 single wires going into some sleeving. My concern would be water tracking down the wiring and then getting into the electronic driver.

YES it is possible to do personal imports from China. However is it going to be as cheap as people think? Apart from such things as warranty, fit for purpose, road legal, will you get the item etc.

Pay for the goods and carriage then if you are lucky they reach the UK. Now HMRC are getting wise to personal imports and VAT is due on any goods over 15 entering the UK. Have a look HERE

Small items/relatively low weight items are likely to be sent via post and Royal Mail/Parcel Force and they will charge a handling fee/custom clearance fee/storage charges etc which is in the region of 17.50.

I've not paid import taxes for years now, but it can and does happen. (I've had it from the USA)
I tend to notice, the larger the item and packaging the more interest there is in it.
Especially from the USA or China.

Cheap LED's are indeed fickle things, they'll just suddenly die. ( A bit like sheep really, not fickle but do like to just drop dead.) Rolling Eyes Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧

Mine which look identical to these, were bought from and fitted by an independent Land Rover dealer here in France. I paid a whole lot more than these prices though Rolling Eyes They do have an e mark engraved on the lens. Assuming they are the same, I would be surprised and annoyed if they were not legal in Europe. I guess we'll see if it gets picked up at its first CT in autumn 2018. If they last that long of course Rolling Eyes

All I know is, they are much much brighter and whiter than the original LR lights and put my Peugeot lights to shame. So they get a big Thumbs Up from me.

Steve, I just wonder if you have just been lucky or if it a case of HMRC being more alert or a case of Royal Mail/Parcelforce looking at another revenue stream??

I am not sure how international postage works. Does the post office in the receiving country get paid for their costs in delivering said item or is it done on the premise that there are equal number of letters/parcels flowing both ways?

A custom declaration on a parcel then has say Parcelforce realised that there is a potential liability for VAT so that they can then charge a handling fee? Increase their revenue stream? I do not know the answer to those questions.

It was back in 2006 or so, declaration of value on package from the USA.
RM left a card in the post saying there was (at the time) a 1 handling fee & xxx VAT payable.
IIRC payable on the RM website I think*

Once paid its delivered ASAP and held at the local delivery office, if not paid in 14 days it's returned to sender.

I'd imagine couriers are the same but may involve a phone call payment instead.
With RM it was straight forward.

Under 15 there is no chance of VAT charges over that there is.

However,
I've bought items in the 200$ US region, declaration acurate on packaging and still not been billed.
In around 5 or 6 orders from various countries all VAT payable on import I've been billed once.

They wonder why there isn't funds in the public cofffers too!

I do think they are mainly looking for values $500 US + though mainly.

Personally I'd never buy from abroad unless I was prepared to pay VAT also, not just chance it.
If you get charged you do, if not bonus!
I'd imagine on larger items a courier may charge more for delivery and handling.

Over all nothing to worry about, but best kept in mind.

I was stung almost 90 Euro for a $350ish VPN Router I bought from the States and had shipped to France. Very annoying but I had no choice as it was only available over there.

Was that shipped direct from the US to France then? Or via the UK, en-route?

Hi Guys,

I'm from the site mentioned above. Obviously I've got to keep this non-commercial for now - although we have enquired about sponsorship. I thought I'd add some information in response the questions asked and comments made.

Our Halo's are DOT SAE and E9 approved, and are IP67 rated. Full UK warranty too.

They have the following stats..

Dim beam - 3600Lum
Main beam - 4800Lum

Headlight adjustment will be required to ensure that Dim/Main are pointing out and not pointing at the floor.

Again, not a sales pitch, but full technical assistance is available from our on-site electrical specialist - so my message to Nick would be to give us a call if he feels there is a problem. Contact details on our website.

Oh and Riverboy... we can deliver to France for a small additional charge Smile

Well firstly, we're not interested in charging silly delivery fees for the sake of it - hence the cheap UK options. We price up EU/International orders individually based on the dimensions and weights.

However purely as an example, I just queried the Halo's with our despatch team. 3-5 day delivery to France would come out at just under 10. That's the cheapest option - express would obviously be charged more.
