Defenders are still used in new advertisements
Spotted below billboard advertisement today in town here.
So Defenders continue to be used in advertisements, even a year after production ended. They could have used a new D5 for this, or not?
Probably the good old Defender, in this case an SVX, still gives people a stronger message of adventure. Whistle

I'm sure they will continue to be current for a while yet despite the end of production. The reason they will remain a current vehicle is that there is nothing out there to match them and nothing can do it quite like a defender.

Hopefully we see them in adverts for ever Laughing 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

^^ We have both the headquarters of PMI and JTI here around the lake. Combined they employ more than 4000 people in this country. Money talks. Whistle
Now don't get me wrong, I myself never smoked in my life, and have zero appreciation for anybody smoking or e-vaporing within a 100 meters radius around me. Evil or Very Mad
That said, Philip Morris today is almost more of a food production company (Miller, General Foods, Kraft, etc.) than a cigarette company. Nothing wrong with that of course.

Eric, vaping should be encouraged not discouraged.

I smoked cigarettes from an early age until two years ago when I decided to try vaping at the age of 55. Over the years I've tried various ways of kicking the habit but all of them failed.

My dad was a tobacconist, so was my grandfather and great grandfather. I suppose I was always going to be a smoker.

My dad died two years ago this month. I went across to the UK to his funeral and when I returned to France I vowed to stop smoking, so I bought an electronic cigarette. It took me a whole year of vaping, starting off on the highest Mg dose of nicotine, gradually reducing the dose each time I bought the liquid until I was on 0mg. I found it hard to stop using that electronic cigarette even though I was no longer hooked on nicotine. The habit of holding something and sucking on it was hard to beat, and it took an unrelated operation and hospital stay to beat that habit.

That was last June and I am now a non smoker, non vapour and have no desire to ever smoke either ever again.

Without vaping I know I would never have done it. Please, next time you see someone vaping, give them encouragement, say well done, keep it up, you can do it, don't discourage people, its not smoke, its water vapour, its not harming you, it is helping them.

Riverboy, excellent that you got rid of being hooked on smoking/vaping altogether. Thumbs Up
But I do not accept that you say that vaping is not hurting others, pretty shocking actually.
I am sure you must have googled things like for instance "e-cigarettes dangers", and the 100s of results, including top cancer institutes research findings never are a happy read. Below is one citation from resources which undoubtedly are more qualified on the matter than you and I, so please do not say that it does not hurt others, and that it must be encouraged.
Thud
Eric

Unlike traditional cigarettes, e-cigarettes are loaded with a vaporizable liquid. This fluid is made up of a number of chemicals, among them propylene glycol, glycerol, nicotine and a variety of flavoring substances. While these chemicals don’t sound entirely appealing, the new research shows that the real danger may be in how these compounds change when heated.
To use an e-cigarette, you load the liquid and apply electricity, heating the liquid until it vaporizes. At this temperature, the chemicals inside the fluid undergo a breakdown process and are converted into other chemicals. Using an advanced measurement system called nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, scientists examined the new chemicals, and in the process, found a particularly concerning result.
When the e-cigarette liquid broke down, it produced both formaldehyde and formaldehyde-releasing agents, a troubling result when you consider that formaldehyde is a known carcinogen. In fact, the recent article compares the risk of developing cancer from this e-cigarette toxin to the risk of cancer from smoking traditional cigarettes, and states that that the risk with e-cigarettes may be up to 15 times higher.

P.S. this is not a subject that deserves much further talk as discussions about an addiction to cigarettes/e-vaping are useless anyway. You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

There is a defender in a current Specsavers hearing aid advert. No wonder the poor lady had hearing troubles, she was driving a defender! Rolling with laughter ---------------------------------------------------------------
