Does an Ascroft transfer diff give another wine?
I (think) I hear a higher pitched wine than previous.

I changed the diff in the transferbox to an Ascroft limited sper diff. It has more gears, could be the cause..
Especialy when braking on the Engine (higher rev's).

Is it just my ears?

No, they shouldnt whine.
Its probably the alignment on the mesh between the rack and pinion gears. If they are not 100% they will whine. Check it with some engineers blue.

Any new copmponent can make some noise until run in, for example my front axle ATB with HD R&P whined noticesbly on the over-run for the first few hundred miles but has been silent since. The whine is apparently quite common with the HD R&P, it is more unusual that mine has stopped.

However, given that in normal driving the centre diff has very little moving inside it since all that is happening is that the entire unit is rotating, I feel it is unlikely that the diff is the source of your whine, It is more likely to be the bearings carrying the diff, or other parts of the transfer box which were disturbed during the fitting.

Did you fit the diff yourself, or did you buy a complete transfer box?

Either way, I wouldn't worry about it unless it gets worse as time passses. it is more likely to get better.

Hi,

Yes the centre dif.

I will try to record the sound.

It is gone when I press the clutch pedal. Could be the transfergears as well.
