The plan would be to keep it as std as possible and 'try' not to spend too much on it... (Save the pennies for my daily) The wheels, I like the std steel look in white (I could refurbish them) or what were you thinking? with new tyres. Like thsi look

I love Series Land Rovers, owned them for over 40 years but if you have never owned one before I would go in eyes wide open. They are slow, noisey, uncomfortable (compared to a modern car) and quite thirsty. Series 3's probably had the worst reputation of all the Series vehicles for build quality - British Leyland!! Also the steel used in the chassis was particularly poor.
Get it inspected properly if you are not completely clued up about them. They are great fun but as I say go in eyes wide open. And if you are proposing to have children in the front make sure you have proper seat belt and anchorage points, all too often people just bolt the seat belts to the aluminium bulkhead behind the seats, not a good idea. |

I bought the S3 before the Defender but didn't buy that well so have spent a fortune! They are proper old fashioned driving, even petrol version holds up the traffic and very uncomfortable. Kids hate it but their mates love it! Shouldn't really like it but I do and filled with character. Not respraying means not having to worry about branches. Good luck with this, if you like a Defender you should enjoy it! .

Looks lovely Scott, but personally I'd leave it as is. Genuine station wagons seem to be thin on the ground, and that looks very unmolested. But that's my personal opinion, and at the end of the day it's only a giant meccano kit. (And I'm jealous really that you've found such a nice example
 )
The previous manager at the nursery the kids go to had one (was featured in the buyers guide in practical classic's a while back). Slow and noisy, but she loved it. Reckoned the bonnet mounted spare improved mpg  2007 - Stornoway Grey 90 XS SW - Gone

Here's mine, I love it and can thoroughly recommend you get yourself one!
Click image to enlarge I wouldn't worry about keeping the roof on for originality, it took a mate and I less than an hour to remove the roof and door tops on mine, they are stored in the barn if I ever want to revert back. I bought a exmoor trim sand canvas roof and hood sticks but have never fitted them. I'm currently rebuilding it with a galvanised chassis, bulkhead and front panel. Should be ready for summer! Then I can start on my series 2  |

Hi, I've replied to your PM mate.
The series vehicles have a galvanised capping on the tub and top of doors, so you wont need to add those. If you're going down the soft top route, you'll need a canvas hood & hood sticks (I got both from Exmoor Trim), a drop down tailgate to replace the rear door and probably some tie down fixings for the hood if it hasn't had one on before.
