Oily sludge AFTER intercooler?
Hi gents, I was changing out my intercooler and hoses today in prep for my Bas remap, and the inside of the OUTLET hose that runs up to the inlet manifold from the intercooler was dripping wet with what looked like heavy wet oily sludge? There was a minimal fairly dry amount of residue on the inlet to the intercooler, so I don't believe it's from the crank case breather. So the only thing I can think of is it's running back from the EGR pipe that goes into the MAP sensor pipe? But why would it be sludgy wet and oily?? Is this an indication of a problem? I'm also fitting an oil catch can on the breather before the intercooler along with the other new bits....

i believe this is just the crankcase breather oil/mist that has condensed in the inter-cooler as the air flow would pretty much stop things going in the other direction, well worth cleaning it all out, and a good advert for a breather oil separator like the Mann Hummell ones, some horror stories on various forums re this on other cars DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,

I hope everyone is well and your land rovers make you happy

Ah ok, condensed, that makes sense. So because the air charge is heated, it's able to keep oil mist vaporized and in suspension, then once the air charge is cooled through the intercooler, then it falls out and gathers on the discharge, that's a relief, thank you. Now I'm extra happy to befitting the oil catch can on the breather. I looked at the Provent, but decided to go for this unit based on I wasn't keen on changing the filters. http://www.42draftdesigns.com/stealth-oil-catch-can/

Manxie - any feedback on your catch can - it also seems a quality product.
