Oil level in the sump (Installation of electric oil heater)

how high is the oil level in the sump?

I installed a Oil heater and I am afraid I installed it too high

the orange square marks my installation.

Today I put the heater on a timer at 6:30 till 8:30.

Oil pan was around 14c and the ambient temperature was -3c.

Puma started better with less smoke !

I call win, but I am considering an aditional 250 watt pad. Discovery 4 SDV6 Landmark

Wouldn't it be more effective to install an electric heating element in the cooling system? Some have built in little impeller pumps so the the heated fluid is circulated and the heat is better distributed to the engine... Cheers, Vincent

A water heater will be more complex and expensive , also it uses more energy then this.

The big advantage to the water heater is that the top of the engine and the interior gets better heat.
but your 8 liters of oil in the sump is still thick and cold.

If I were to fit a water heater again, I'd go for the 7 design 240v heater, heats the water jacket and pumps around the engine all for about £100 .. you need mains but a significant saving over a tried and tested webasto

2014 Defender 90 Puma 2.2 HT Alpine White

How does this link in with regard to a Webasto (or equivalent) system. I thought that was supposed to warm not only the engine but the cabin also? Is that correct?
