New General Grabber AT3 announced
Saw it first in the Nov LRO magazine which was delivered yesterday.
So General tires are going back to the popular look of the good old AT2 after that one was replaced by the AT which has proven to be a bit of a fiasco since its looks were not very convincing.
Now the new General Grabber AT3 (not to be confused with the Cooper AT3) is announced for this winter, proven looks, with a lot of improvements on and off-road, less noise as will be required by new regs soon, it will also carry the Mountain Snowflake symbol, so could be a pretty good classic looking modern year round tire for a Defender.
I wait with some interest to read the first reviews. In the announcement copied below there also is a new General Grabber X3 which is more off-road/mud biased, announced at the same time.

Doubt they will be on general sale this side of Christmas, I was told yesterday the rep was not bringing the samples out until late November.
Depending on the price it might hold any American brand price increase's

Thanks for posting, very interesting as I'm a bit of a tyre nerd. AT3 might be good for me as I'll be due some new tyres next year and I want something with a good winter rating. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

Too late for me. Recently bought a set of TRs for my Series 3.

Be interested to see what rating for wet surfaces/braking the new GGs will have. My TRs are C.

I would buy any new if in 255 85 size! Land Rover Defenders. 67 years heritage, minimal appearance changes, still going strong all over the world. Not a fashion vehicle, but fashionable to own. Made for the needy, not the greedy. Ta ta Defender

It doesn't bode well that they've spelled the title of the page " GARBBER" Laughing

Sadly I doubt we'll be getting a 255/85 all terrain tyre any time soon. The closest you can get is the Cooper ST/Maxx but that's only in the US.

Anyone know if these are available yet in Europe in 235/85/R16? Can't see them anywhere.

I really like the fact that they will be M+S and snowflake marked as I plan to drive in the alps sometime. (Having said that, my GG TRs are M+S marked but are awful in the snow, but is that because they have done 78,000 miles and are 9 years maybe? Could that be it? One option is to buy GG TRs again).

Tricky finding M+S marked tyres in 235/85/R16 that are suitable for 95% on-road. 2008 Defender 110

"Looks like the weather is turning, time to get sorted with the NEW General Grabber AT3. Pop in to AJS Tyres in Lower Kingswood, just of Junction 8 of the M25 or call 01737 241370 www.ajstyres.co.uk" James

Don't see anywhere that does 235/85 yet.

splatt - you could look at cooper at3 instead of grabber tr?

Edit http://www.general-tire.co.uk/SUV-and-Offroad-Tyres/Grabber-AT3 Looks like 235/85 will be available next summer

It's the mountain snowflake symbol you want to look for. Does AT3 have that? I know General has made a point of saying it has improved snow performance. M+S on its own is as close to meaningless as you can get. Grabber TR definitely doesn't have mountain snowflake symbol and I can concur that they are pretty shoddy in icy conditions. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

There is competition to win a set of AT3 in the Jan (I think) issue of LRO. 235/85 is listed as one of the sizes available to the winner. 265/75 isn't listed though. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

JOW240725: Thanks for that, emailed them to see if it's available in 235/85/R16

Scott: That was on my list as I saw it was M+S marked but is it available in 235/85/R16?

Thanks chaps. 2008 Defender 110

Yes the cooper at3 is m&s but doesn't have a snowflake.

Another option is the nokian Rotiiva atr which is m&s and has snowflake however I have seen mixed views on how good it is in the wet.

Has anybody got any recent experience of the GG AT3? I was always a fan of the AT2 and had them on several different LR vehicles. Haven't seen much mention of the new version, though. Darren
