The sensor shown above is fitted to the fuel filter drain (water collects at the bottom of the filter).
If, as you say, you don't have a sensor then there should be a spare connector underneath the vehicle that it would plug into - your comment that the light used to come on when deep wading seems confirm this. The connector is 3 pin (econoseal type I think): 1 - Orange/Green - to warning lamp 2 - Black - earth 3 - White/Green - 12v ign from fuse 8 (also feeds the rear wiper) You will probably find it is full of muck, a good clean out should sort it, make sure the connector is well waterproofed afterwards. Will the sensor fit on to a filter that has never had a sensor - or would I also need a new different filter ?
I also heard that the sensors were not fitted to post 2001 Td5 so the truck has never had one fitter Is water in fuel an issue nowadays ? |

Remove the PLUG-DRAIN WATER (12) and and fit the SENSOR-WATER (3) Marco

Personally I would bother, for once I can relate something positive. The warning light on my old TD5 came on, took it to the stealer, who undid the drain where mostly water poured out. Probably dodgy fuel, he suggested that before any drastic repairs I should fill the tank with new fuel, stop every mile or so on my way home and re-drain the it. Light went off never to be seen again...
But I wonder what would have happened if I'd continued with "watered-down" diesel? Peter Edited to add: mine was ROW spec; I wonder if they were fitted for markets where vehicles were more likely to be filled with dodgy fuel? Although this was in the UK! |

Retrofitted one to my 2002 TD5, has never falsly triggered the warning light. Peugeot diesels had these sensors fitted on fuel filters for years. I have had them several and they have illuminated a number of times when the filter contained water.
