Need help - metal jingle/rattle noise (sound recording)
Hey guys,

I've got a 2000 TD5, I actually bought it from a guy on here (RFDemon) earlier in the year. It's been a dream to drive but I'm recently noticing some noises that shouldn't be there Big Cry

Booked in with my mechanic for tomorrow but in the meantime I had a quick look through forums for an answer.

Most threads point to universal joint or a frame ball joint.

You can hear the noises here: https://youtu.be/jUNLyTM4ibA

The loud squeak is the spring on the clutch pedal.

There is also a loud single clunk noise from the back that happens randomly when pulling off or letting off the accelerator. It doesn't happen every time though. I didn't get it in the recording.

Second one is probably the rear diff flange. Bit of Loctite does the trick.

First one might be something similar I had with my 93k 2000Td5 CSW. Rattle when just off the revs somewhere is the rear of the engine?. Had to fiddle with propshaft to sort the above problem and noise seems to have gone.

Please do not assume I had anything to do with mending above. Devon 4x4 sorted for me.

The trio of faults for me was stuck turbo waste gate. Does it hesitate when you reach maximum revs? If so, then waste gate is common fault.

My engine squeak was the turbo heat shield - the rivets had worn through at the back and the shield was rubbing and squeaking 1999 Defender TD5 110
