Windscreen frame removal TD5 2001 Non-air con
Hi, I need to remove my windscreen and frame. The rubber seal for the glass has failed but also there is some corrosion going on under the rubber and also I'm not confident with regards to how good the seal is between the frame to the body (roof and bulkhead).

I understand I can get the frame out by part lifting the roof/sides of the Defender. What I really need are the part numbers for the seals between the shell (the part I'm going to lift) and the base and the top and bottom seals for the windscreen frame.

Have I missed anything else I may need as I want to get everything on hand before I start. I have got the screen rubber and some glass sealant already. OH, and a new screen!

Thanks in advance

if you undo the bolts holding the sides to the tub and the 10mm bolts along the top of the frame line (and A pillaer) you can lift the roof - just enough to get to the frame. you will need to wedge it up

then take off the hinge bracket fixings

you will need to split the gasket/silicon/sealent along the top to be able to separate the roof from top of the frame.

it wont lift out though easily. its held in location at the bottom by large locating lugs (like one that hold rad in place)

the frame is angled at the top to take the roof profile, remember that when trying to pry the sealant apart!

dont know the MPN but any parts supplier shoudld be able to help, the bottom seal is a self adhesive bit of closed cell foam with holes for the locating lugs cut in it, the top is just a line of thinner self adhesive foam. i use silicon on the top of the last one i did. Cheers

Hi and thanks for the reply's. Another question if I may; What would you do, pay around £100 for a genuine LR windscreen rubber or buy a Britpart for less than a tenner? Mike

Unfortunately I don't know who they are. Can you elaborate please Martin?

Stop the Press, I found them but looks like Trade only? Mike

Allmakes is a parts brand./group, just like Britpart. Supplied to parts companies only for them to retail.

They have a "Premium" parts range, with 2 year warranty on them - this they call "PR2".

I would recommend their windscreen seal, have fitted 2 now and they are fine.

Just one supplier, there are many others Smile
