Hi all,

Before my trip to mechanic on thurs anyone got any ideas on source of oil leak - appreciate its a long shot and photos are poor but it seems to be blowing back from the right of belt. The large hose with the sheathing on it under the two smaller ones is caked in oil. Tempted to cut the sheathing and see if large hose has a split in it. Trouble is with the fan going it seems to mist the oil making Id of the source a bit tricky!

Looks like it could be the brake vacum pump, known issue on the Puma.

That was quick thanks for that really appreciated -reckon you've got it in one! cleaned said part off as best I could - ran engine and its def weeping from the casing where the bolts are and behind the small pulley. Next q is can I poodle to the mechanics? About a 30min journey.

You would probably be ok for a short trip. I had the same problem, didn’t realise it was leaking till I saw drips on the drive.

I must have done quite a few miles with it leaking.

I changed the brake vacuum pump about a month ago. It was the seal that was shot but I replaced both pump and seal at the same time.

thanks all - assuming it is that part anyone recommend a supplier - save messing about with seals etc presume it is best just to buy the whole kit?

Also reading on here it appears it was effectively a recall as known as a likely fail so want to make sure I get the updated version.

2007 Defender 90 Puma 2.4 HT Tonga Green

There are three different variations of that pump which have different seals.
You want the most recent one, cant remember the part number for it even though I changed mine last month.
Very easy job to do, takes about 10 mins from start to finish, easier when the engine is cold though

Had to take mine off when replacing water pump.

How does the pipe remove safely? I just tied it carefully out the way and replaced gasket and re-fitted.
No issues, but would be useful to know in case of an issue.

All fixed!

Thanks scoobeenut for the prompt diagnosis! Part arrived overnight from a very helpful keith gott and fitted it with mechanic in about 20mins! Old one was leaking pretty much leaking everywhere but mainly through where the small pulley cog was and the gasket was knackered.

Expensive part for such a simple fix but hey ho!
