not too much......?

I can honestly say the 'imaginary' problems are far more entertaining.

As BM has mentioned the motor has some kind of thermal safety device - can anyone confirm what this is, how it works and whether it's a quick fix?

the other thing - is there anymore involve than just the stalk, motor and park switch mounted on the motor ie no relay anywhere?

Check whether there's power to the motor. If there isn't, you have an electrical problem (which I think is unlikely but possible). If you have power, then you have a problem with the motor or drive system (more likely). You may possibly have a failed park switch, stranger things have happened.

Remove the motor and check whether it is seized (unlikely since they are generally very long-lived). If it is, replace it.

As you remove the motor it will become very apparent if one or other wheelboxes have seized, which is a common problem, since the drive rack won't shift if one or other has. If one has, then replace it/them.

A drive rack and set of wheelboxes does not cost very much, although fitting is a bit of a pain,

They are usually stock items at main dealers since (a) they fail a lot and (b) I think they are essentially unchanged since the introduction of the Series IIA in 1968.

ISTR when I replaced mine that the drive rack and two wheelboxes came to around £30 in total.

I only did the first phase of the fix - took it to IRB Laughing

Ian opened up for me and did some checks and ultimately it turned out that the shafts were seize where they penetrate the bulkhead.

Simples.

So will be using plenty of acf50 going forward.

Something to consider guys.

Ian. If you're reading this. Really appreciate your help on this as weekend with caravan could have been cancelled.
