Defender 90 300Tdi instrument warning lights not working
I have recently purchased a Defender 90 300Tdi 1998 and the only warning lights that work are the engine oil and battery. All the others do not work even though the actual items work (e.g. indicators side lights, main lights etc.

I have continuity checked the fuses in the engine bay and those inside the cabin (AMR5718) and all seem OK. I have also had the warning light module out and checked each of the bulbs and they all seem OK.

My next step is to voltage check the wires in the two clip in wiring harnesses that attaché to the warning light module to see if when the ignition is turned on there is a voltage to each of the bulb placements especially the glow plug one as I expected that to light up then go out.

Anyone have any bright ideas about something simple I am missing or have fixed a similar problem

There's a multi-plug in the engine bay which carries many of the warning light wires (see the first page of the ongoing thread in my signature). I had no handbrake or brake-wear warning lights showing when I turned on the 'ignition', despite the bulbs being good. I assumed the handbrake microswitch was duff but once I got a meter on it, I realised it was working too. Tracing the individual wires is a pain when they disappear into the loom but if you have a bulk of lights failing it might just point to that multi-plug being disconnected?

Check the earth connections to the warning lamp pack. The two you can see working do so because they are not earthed at the instrument pack.  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

Sorting out the earthing has solved all the problems on the warning lights except one. So thanks for the help its much appreciated including the wiring diagram.

The L/R indicators warning lights don't flash although the tow warning light comes on once when the first L or R indicator is used. I can live with this as I don't use the tow point and the actual indicators are working but if you have any ideas they will again be gratefully accepted.

I bought the Land Rover as knowing it would need constant work and am retired so it was something to keep me busy. Proving to be an interesting challenge which I don't mind and am up for it LOL

Check to see if all the wires are Ok on the hazard warning light switch. I had a similar problem and traced it down to that switch. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

Checked the wires at the back of the switch and one of the black wire spade connectors seemed loose so fitted a new spade connector pushed it on and the indicators now work fine. You guys are magic thanks a lot saved me a lot of electrical heartache
