Have a look at the prices and the 18" Bowler wheels are actually cheaper than the 18" twisted alloys. So if you buy the bowler wheels you want your actually saving money using my maths! Cheers Tom  |

anyone considered the 18" black (or silver) 'boost' alloys?
I'll see if I can dig a photo out. just my thoughts - 18" on a 90 good great, I'm not so sure about on a 110. for me the big decider would whether or not you're going to be upgrading the brakes to something that wouldn't fit in the 16s. found a photo. Do you have to buy them from Bowler direct? Do they ship them? Or are they available from dealers? I want 18" Anthrecite on mine

They are widely available, (for example FCX and Tune My Defender) but I found Bowler were cheapest if you ask for a 'best price'. However, that was pick up from Derbyshire. Not sure what they would offer as a discount or delivery prices if you had to have them delivered to France and how it would compare were you to go to a secondary supplier.

Thanks mate. Hopefully the garage can get them for me and fit them when I bring her over in late June. I would imagine having them shipped here would be a bit pricey.

You're welcome. I would have offered to pop 'em in my SW when I collect it next week, but a mate has just loaded it up with 5 x Sawtooths!!
If you have a chance and are back in the UK, I'd strongly recommend a visit. Use picking up the wheels as an excuse. But make sure your wallet is under lock and key. I came out a couple of grand poorer than expected...  Monsieur Le Grenadier

Won't have time sadly. Not sure how I'll fit all my plans in as it is. Only £2k? You lightweight LOL I won't embarrass myself down by saying what this trip is costing me

I went 18", no f***ing about with local wheel size nonsense. Just hope to avoid kids, grans, small dogs etc. Bowler supply them (if you ask) with BFGs. Did consider Cooper ST Maxx as I had on my Blindos, but their 18" sizing is far more limited.
By the way, asked the insurance company (Axa) today, indeed just 2hrs ago, about their view on non original wheels, under the guise of a winter wheel/tyre set up and a heavy duty wheel/tyre set up and he said they'd pay up. Wouldn't enter their mind to contest it if they are suitable to the vehicle because the costs wouldn't be worth it. Mowing down 75 disabled kids on their way to a sports day might have them looking at things differently, but as far as a crash, prang etc is concerned, if they're made to fit Defenders, have tyres for Defenders etc etc, they'll pay up as per usual. Also, given most crashes are dealt with between parties directly, it would take a seriously knowledgable jobsworthy prat to spot they weren't tickety-boo, but knowing my luck I'll soon crash into the head engineer at the French equivalent of the DVLA 
Good price for the insurance as well, at 51€/month. For a 110DC fully comp. Monsieur Le Grenadier

Humpf! I'm paying 70 something with Macif.
I'll have to go in and speak to them tomorrow about this before I make a final decision. However I just cannot risk not being 100% covered so ...
I read above that you preferred the look of the 16"? but you went with 18"  |

Like Grenadier, i spoke to our AXA guy today in the office so he made a few calls.
Turns out, yes its illegal if you just buy a random set of different size alloys as it stops boy racers buying crap composite junk from china and the wheel giving way (never heard of it). Head office confirmed if its a defender specific wheel AND bought from a supplier that does defender products, then its absolutely legal and covered. I got a shrug if they are second hand off ebay though. Moral of story, buy from company and keep the receipt with your car stuff and its absolutely legal. Also noted my winter tyres are not legal |
