I just switched my insurance from NFU to Adrain Flux.
I like NFU and dealing with them is great. When I added a snorkel and winch, no worries, no charge. When I asked them about Green Lane and off road cover it was a different story which surprised me massively. I was thinking NFU, Farmers, Off Road, it's a no brainer I have to be covered. The reality was a little different. It was referred back to head office and the answer came back the following day that I was not included for driving on green lanes, off road use or anything similar! I queried this and referenced Glass and the fact that Green Lanes legally known as BOAT's and UCR's are considered a part of the normal highway and subject to the same laws requiring vehicle tax and insurance to both be current. The answer came back the following day that this had been queried at a level 4 within NFU and that without doubt I was not covered to use my Landy on Green lanes or off road! This was pretty shocking news as I have seen a number of references stating that NFU provided good cover in this area. I called around a got a decent price from Adrian Flux and went with it. I then checked on Defende2.Net and came across A-Plan - Doh! I am wondering roughly what A-Plan would quote for:- Defender 90 XS Black Pack - First Registered November 30 2013. Driver 52 years old full licence held for 34 years, no convictions within last 5 years, no notifiable health issues. no claims within last 5 years Lived in the UK since birth with odd stays working overseas. Protected no claims 8 years. Vehicle in my company name with myself as named driver with full business use. Business type - Holiday/Camping Park Proprietor Mods:- Chipped from 120 to 150 BHP Zion Platinum 10 S Winch on a Devon 44 winch mount with DRL's and main driving lights. Safari Snorkle Mantec Steering Guard Wild Bear front and rear differential guards Wild Bear Transmission Guard Remote battery terminals to seat box front. HeatShot heated washer unit. If someone from A-plan could PM me that would be great. I would also be interested to know if the cost would be higher if I have a spare set of standard size steel wheels fitted with standard sized mud terrain tyres that I use when I take the vehicle off road. Thank you for the post, we have a few insurers who will cover Green laning and off roading, however we only have one who covers this type of risk when used as a business car. Their underwriting is very bespoke, therefore we will have to go through a full quotation. When you get a spare 10 minutes please call us on 01635 874646.
