Chequer Plate Wing Tops

Slightly confused with the wing top lengths between 90 / 110
They seem to be of different lengths ? according to plate lenghts surely the wing tops are the same size ?

Also will the TD5 ones fit the TDCi ? for some reason my local dealer says not.

As always any info is apreciated.

There are 2 lengths of wing top chequer plate. The wings on TD5 and TDCI are the same Thumbs Up
Short (No aerial hole)
Long (Aerial hole on)

The old (td5/tdi) long ones don't really fit the new Puma as the bonet is wider and can chip the paint work but I got round this by sticking some household sticky door seal foam under the lip of the bonnet. The new long top for the Puma is jsut a bit narower and a little shorter.

As mentioned the older wing tops won't fit the Puma, though from what I was told most people are fitting them Confused Unfortunately when I tried this I found that the genuine 3mm checkerplate was not going to fit under the bonnet without significant damage to something. The tollerances on the bonnet closure seem to vary - fance that on a Land Rover Shocked - anyway I ended up getting the correct one for the Puma. The new model's plate is not only smaller in size its also much more costly over here Big Cry

The differences between the Td5 and the TDCi are the bonnet is about 1" wider on either side at the firewall and about 1/2" wider on either side at the front. This means it overlaps at both ends and you need at least 4mm gap to stop it contacting the checkerplate.

If you're not buying 3mm and only getting a lighter weight plate then check it out and see what will fit.

The kit i fitted was exactly the same as the genuine TD5 one (annodised silver) i just adjusted the the 2No rubber stops and catch on the bonnet and all is well Thumbs Up

I`ll try and take a photo later Thumbs Up

Wouldn't have helped me, I looked at that but my bonnet has a very small gap at the rear from about the aerial back. Heaps of room at the front and I could have wound the stops out a little to be safe. Unfortunately not a lot can be done at the hinge end. I've now looked at 2 other Puma's, one would have fitted no problems, the other was better than mine but still probably not a good fit. Like I said - tolerances on the bonnet closure seem to vary.

Thanks so far !

Just checked my tolerances and they are tight !

So for arguments sake the long ones are TD5 or older and the shorter and not that i have noticed thinner ones are TDCi ?

If you buy the genuine LR one's the only difference is in the length and width of the plates. They are both 3mm thick. The Td5 and earlier are longer and have a hole for the aerial, the Puma ones are shorter and not as wide at the front end.

Didn't think of it when I fitted them, but I'll see what I can do with the camera and photoshop tomorrow (it's very dark here now Wink ). I have Tdi parked next to Puma and both have the wing top plate fitted. So should be able to do a scaled overlay.
