JLR investigates ultrasound gesture controls in cars
Some very clever people...

"Ultrahaptics has developed a technology that uses ultrasound to create feeling in mid-air. By holding their hand over ultrasound speakers the user can feel virtual objects, control switches and buttons."

Hm, so you can genuine 'feel' things that arent' there!

I can think of many, many applications for that (but none are vehicle-related)!

A whole new era of virtual reality beckons,,,,

I assume for the BMW it's for the indicator switch, a virtual indicator switch would match the virtual indicators. http://www.yorkshireoffroadclub.net/

Rolling with laughter

And the virtual switch to turn off the front and rear fog lights.

I think Audi must use the same technology.

Is it? Are you sure you aren't confusing it with Gesture Control?

Ultrahaptics enhances gesture control by giving the sensation of touching something that isn't there.
It's like the small vibration you get when you type on a smart phone. http://defender90xs.blogspot.co.uk/
