Outside air temperature

On an 2007 XS is it possible to display the outside air temperature on the instrument display. Pesumably the vehicle knows from the ambient air temperature sensor for the air con what the temperature is and I believe the instrument display panel is from either the new Disco 3 or Feelander, both of which presumably display the outside temperature somewhere.

The Freelander I have (F2) displays Avg Speed, Range, MPG, Trip, key information (washer low) and maybe something else on the instrument display - but i assume all this is controlled by the BCU anyway so would the OAT - which is displayed on the central display.

Croytec anre now doing an add on for your radio which will allow it to show the OAT vai, i believe, the ariel.

Its in LRW this month, and is abour £90

i was wrong - top right ext temp on the central clock - its amazing you look at something over and over!

Has anyone composed OAT display neatly into the new dash?
It getting colder here and I am looking for the way to know if it is below or above zero and how much.

maplin display looks good value and croytec radio display is interesting though expensive however i think all the 'bits' (OAT sensor and display) are already on the vehicle - if only I knew where the wires went..........

The sensors already are, there's loads of info there to tap into (you can use a scangauge - http://www.scangauge.com/ to access it from the OBDII port).
If the bits of the binnacle that display info on the FL are still there (not removed for the Defender?) then it would be great to link it back up..?

I would/will do, but I'm not an expert on the electronics (or any other part for that matter) - all I know is all I've said I'm afraid!
I was rather hoping someone else would answer that for us! Confused

I'm tempted by the scangauge, just not sure where I'd put it - I like to keep the dash uncluttered (I'm a bit OCD like that!). So would be great if the instrument panel could be put to more use...
Having said all that, we know the buttons on the front are 'fakes', so it may well be that all the necessary parts have been deleted. Sad

What buttons??all mine work.

I would suggest/suspect the central screen you are talking about is not there - if your lucky not connected, but then to connect it (been a long time since ive done anything LCD related) you would need to power it, some sort of control module for it and then the input. I doubt it would know how to display any input without some form of chip - which may be there as part of the instrument control unit, but likely part of the F2's BCU equiv.

Well I had a look at a mate's Discovery today and this is where the outside temp is displayed:

The display pod looks identical to the Defender's apart from a different speedo (130mph vs 110) - maybe the Freelander's is the same - this is the Defender pod:

Looking at the back of the instrument pod it seems there is a single connector so I would guess that the instrument pods are standard units - without disconnecting it and taking it apart however I can't say if the lcd display is in there but just not used - the only clue seems to be that in the handbook it says that in the Gulf States this lcd is used for an overspeed warning indicator - this is the connector for the Defender pod:

I haven't located the OAT sensor yet but suspect someone will know where it is - this project may have to wait for warmer weather.........
