Good ideas for Next Defender
or just the usual quirky concept nonsense?

Citroen Cactus M concept:

Air Hoops:
"The rear tailgate is also plastic and folds down to reveal a pick-up loading bay. Lift up the boot floor and there’s the roof that can only be erected by hand. To keep the fabric roof rigid, a compressor pumps air through three tubes that traverse the windscreen and rear roll-over hoop."

Built in Tent:
"The quirky roof can also double up as a tent that fixes to the back half of the car, while the back seat can fold down to create a bed."

Waterproof Interior:
"Inside, the Cactus M is completely waterproof. Peel back the rubber floor mats and plugholes allow water to escape the foot-wells, and the seats are made from the same material as wet suits."

Hello Supacat

Your question is a good one, and although it's probably a 'done deal' with regards to what the replacement Defender will offer, beyond the 'must keep characteristics' for me, a practical, go more or less anywhere vehicle, that lends itself to multiple variations and uses.

Having driven Defenders for just over 20 years, my wish list has been in place for some time,
it's more accurately described as 'I wish Land Rover would fix this list'.

The ideas in the Citroen possibly could be incorporated into the Land Rover offer,
it's always about the detail, but personally I cant get past the look of the Citroen... i'd rather walk.

Replacement Defender

Simple, Reliable, Practical, Functional, Fit for Purpose, that visually carries the Legacy of the Defender forward.

1. Build Quality.
2. Anti-Corrosion.
3. Panoramic Visibility.
4. 100% Demisting / Extreme Climate Heating and Air Conditioning.
5. Internal Noise Reduction.
6. No Vulnerable Internal Finishes / Hose Down.
7. All Instrumentation / Switches Marine Quality.
8. Watertight Cabin / Highest not Lowest Wading Depth in LR Range.
9. Integral Sat-Nav / 3D GPS / Overland Route Planning.
10. Full Overland, Expedition, Service Sector 'thinking' incorporated form Day 1.
11. Avoid 'Look Don't Touch' Design Approach, Allow Owner Hands-On Maintenance.
12. Aesthetics... Retain Land Rover / Defender Legacy. SKIP
