110 Roof Repair
Hi folks,

My roof has a slight flat spot, caused by the previous owner and undetected by me when I went to buy the truck.

Just one of these things i guess!

Anyway, I'd like to get it repaired, trouble is its right next to the alpine window, the window is partially dislodged, not much but noticeable when pointed out.

One body shop said it's too much hassle as it's an alloy roof, but I'm not sure if he just couldn't be bothered and thus just fobbed me off.

Now, if need be, I'd buy a new roof, but other than it bugs me it's ok, I.e. It doesn't leak.

If it really is too much hassle to bother doing anything about it then I'll maybe buy a roof rack to hide it Laughing

Any thoughts?

Cheers

Hi Robbo any decent body shop will be able to fix this. I got my 110 trapped under a beam in an NCP multi storey which had been resurfaced but hadn't had the height limit barriers updated, I took it to LR who wanted £1.5k to fix it and paint but I found an independent body shop who had experience in aluminium repair who did if for less than half that including a full roof respray. A few minutes on Google turns up Kinghorn body shop as being JLR approved for aluminium repair, might be worth a call Thumbs Up Thumbs Up 2014 110 2.2TDCi XS Station wagon

As Jomara stated it shouldn't be a difficult repair for a competent bodyshop.

Unfortunately the way the industry has developed (largely driven by the insurance co's) mean that the shops need volume throughput and certainty. It's all about 'key to key' time and pricing is controlled/capped by the insurer. Thus a Defender and it's uncertainties will have most shop managers running in the opposite direction.

Try and find a well respected Indy in your area. Alas there are less and less of them so be prepared to travel.

Kinghorn did a lot of warranty work on my last defender, they should know what they're doing but I had some issues which were eventually ironed out. They seem to do a lot of insurance work too. Be prepared for a substantial quote.

You could try north east autobody in Ashley lane Aberdeen.

As for swapping the roof, isn't it crimped on to the side panels? Current Steeds:

No, it unbolts and lifts off.

Right enough, I was visualising the gutter as I wrote. Of course the roof unbolts... Current Steeds:
