Mine had a blocked cat too, night and day after fitting cat removal pipe....( that was after replacing fuel pump, mag, egr removal , loom, etc etc!!..)

I know yours is a TD5 but you'll get the idea if you think it's the cause and you'll have no mither MOT time as the TD5 Cat is in such an obvious location.

Intercooler hoses are normally soft. I'd go gen LR myself, I think the funky coloured ones are a waste of money

Length of rod may do it. My 'cat' is fitted in the same place as a TD5 one, but I think you may not have a join in the same place as a Puma exhaust as depicted. You could consider fitting a join after the hanger perhaps for 'cat' access?

What's the reasoning behind 'removing' the cat - does it clog up with something over time (I appreciate my 110 is approaching 11yrs old, but the mileage is low - approx 28k) ?

Removing the 'cat' will allow the engine to breathe easier and the turbo to spool up quicker. There's loads of information on the forum if you look under 'decat.' Having 'had a few blocked' Fatboy Slim may be able to elaborate. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! The length behind the td5 cat is not the mayor problem it's the 2 bend that prevent you from drilling it out.. Roel

They block. Especially on low milers. Quick easy diagnostic test: take it off and take it for a blast. No need to buy/drill/hack anything off. Noisy? Yes. Detrimental? No, not for a quick jolly out to see if it's any better.

Are there any other symptoms to be had with a blocked cat ?...........only recently I've noticed a 'tinkling' noise when the engine is under load - I initially thought it was the pads rattling again in the X-brake, but it's not.......do cats make a funny noise when they get blocked and/or start to break down internally ?
I've also been trawling the t'interweb for possible replacement exhaust systems/cat replacements - but don't you need a cat for the MoT now ? - some sites seem to advertise a 'C-Cat' rather than a 'D-Cat' pipe, which presumably looks like a cat but with nothing inside it ! Has anyone had experiences with C-Cat replacement pipes - and do I actually need a cat (2003 Td5) Thanks, Jim Td5 110 HD Hardtop.......not quite standard |

I had the same problem a few months ago...
it was the map sensor on the inlet manifold a few inches away from the egr valve/blank ... needed to be replaced... 2001 td5 defender |
